Business Phone Systems for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses Host 750 Million Calls

LOS ANGELES - Fonality®, the world’s largest deployment of open source-based phone systems, today announced high growth in the company’s commercial and open source business units. trixbox® CE, Fonality’s open source project, in 2008 alone was downloaded a total of 2.8 million times, which includes 336,000 SourceForge downloads and an additional 2.48 million downloads and upgrades from trixbox.org. On the commercial side, Fonality's trixbox Pro and PBXtra systems reached 44,000 deployments in over 125 countries delivering over 750 million calls using the company’s patent-pending hybrid-hosted architecture.

“At 750 million calls, Fonality continues to prove it's scalability in telephony,” said Chris Lyman, Fonality CEO. “Our customers continue to grow both in size and function: we serve call centers as routinely as we serve small businesses now.”

Fonality business phone systems are designed for modern workplaces where companies have a mix of office, roaming and home-based workers. PBXtra & trixbox Pro support VoIP calling and traditional phone lines, allowing a smooth transition for businesses upgrading their calling services. Fonality's patent-pending hybrid-hosted architecture allows employee identity to be maintained as they travel between work, home, and hotel. Fonality systems, when paired with the award-winning HUD® presence software, provides a unified view of chat, email, and calling for all fixed and mobile workers.

trixbox CE is Fonality’s open source project and one of the world’s largest communities devoted to open source telephony. It operates on a single server, providing companies with a PBX phone system and the surrounding applications needed to support their business. The trixbox community has the largest number of registered users and the most active forums for discussing and resolving open source telephony and Asterisk-based issues.

"The popularity of trixbox CE continues to grow throughout the US and the world. At 2.8 million downloads in 2008, the trixbox CE project is far-and-away the leader in free, open-source IP PBX products." said Andrew Gillis, trixbox CE's Founder.
