Caller ID Name Prefix Stripping

I am helping a small business owner who is subletting some of his extra office space. He now has his attendant answering for three companies on his Trixbox CE. So they would know who these incoming calls are for, I set each DID to add a caller ID prefix. This works well and calls coming in present in the format of:

"ABC Corp - Robert Thomas" (3038811234)

My question is does anyone know how to build a context to strip the caller ID prefix after the call is transferred from the receptionist? I don't think it's a big deal, but some are complaining that it causes the Caller ID string to be too long, and makes it hard to return calls from their caller ID history. I have seen several examples of trimming the Caller ID string on inbound, but not sure where this would go to trim AFTER the call is answered.

Thanks in advance!

Custom Application

Solstars,

You'll have to direct the call to a custom application after the receptionist to strip off the caller ID prefix. I recommend that you instead use a shorter prefix to avoid the issues.

You should start off your endeavor by reading Asterisk: The future of Telephony, it's a free book and is the definitive guide for programming your asterisk dialplan.

Regards,

Chris
