Calls to voicemail hang up

Just installed Trixbox ce 2.8. Installed X lite 3 on a client machine and after creating an extension:

Generic SIP Device
display Name: Jeff
secret: abc123
extension: 200
vm status: enabled
vm pass: 1234

Added the account to xlite and everything seems to work. But, I haven't setup any trunks, etc. so I cannot really call anything to test so I just try to call the voicemail system by dialing *97, which is shown as the feature code for dialing my voicemail. The call connects, and after 1 second it hangs up. Never changes. 1 second. I added another user extension and enabled voicemail on it, tried calling it and after 1 second, it hangs up. But, I can call myself if I dial my extension and it rings, but never gets to voicemail. Dialing *98 connects and does not hang up, but there is no prompt, etc. just silence until I hang up....

Any thoughts as to what is wrong?

Can you post a call log so

Can you post a call log so that we can see what is going on? With a call log we'd be able to point out the issue :)

I just installed 2.6.2.2 and

I just installed 2.6.2.2 and it works perfectly. The exact same steps with 2.8 and calls to *97 are just hung up after a second or two.

The machine is a q6600 dell, 4gb ram, a tdm400p (not currently plugged into anything) and a sata drive...Nothing fancy. Maybe I'll just stick with 2.6 for now then...
