Hello all,

We currently have 4 analog phones and a fax machine. We would like to implement VOIP phone system. Our current telephone provider is AT&T but we might go with a bundle solution from our cable company that offers broadband internet and phone service at a low rate. We would also like to give users the ability to make/receive calls from remote locations. We have a Dell PowerEdge 1950 to be used for the new VOIP phone system I just need assistance on the other components to get up and running. We are leaning towards trixbox CE to start and a few Aastra phones.

Thanks,

If you are maintaining the 4

If you are maintaining the 4 PSTN lines you would need something like an R4FXO ( http://shop.rhinoequipment.com/product_info.php?products_id=43 ) to connect the lines to. As far as phones go I am a fan of AASTRA they have done good by me. I also get allot of positive feedback on Linksys phones.

James, thanks for the

James, thanks for the reply.

How does the card you mentioned compare to the Sangoma brand of cards that also have echo cancellation. Also, is this card approved hardware for TrixBox Pro if we decide to go the Pro route over CE?

TIA!

I am using a cable ISP for my office and I use Vitelity for phone service. I was spending $160/ month for 2 business lines through Verizon and I now spend about $18/ month total for both lines. I was nervous about it at first, but it is working great. One of my biggest concerns was having an ISP outage which is common with the snow storms in Maine, but they also offer voicemail or call call forwarding in the event the call cannot find your TB.

Toby, that's about it to get

Toby, that's about it to get started. You'll essentially have what you already run except that the phones are now digital. And a heads up to user issues if that is all you do..... users can be a funny lot when you change the phone system.
And by itself, trixboxing 4 POTS doesn't save you any money until you turn off features at the provider and get clever with outbound routes. You might want a mix of POTS and VoIP lines and then use trix to route things the most economical way. That can save a bundle of money.
I'll suggest one more thing, *Don't* get the VoIP accounts that are offered by the ISPs. They typically aren't PBX friendly and will cost you a lot more since you pay for having the smarts at their place. The trixbox replaces all that so that you are in control for the most part.
