hello

me again !

as a recent convert to VoIP and IP PBX, i find it perplexing that if i do not hit the send or # key at the end of a dialled number, there is a significant timeout and hence post dial delay is unacceptable to me. is there a way to change the end of string timeouts, or for that matter, if the outbound route is set thus

0|0[23478]xxxxxxxx

why does the system not on receipt of the last "x" simply route ?

Furthermore, if you have an extension call, say to an extension 345, when i dial the 5, the call should route; in fact i find even after 30 seconds it has not done so..i HAVE to hit the send or # key. i think this is crazy

anyone know how to fix these problems ?

A lot of it depends on the type of phones you are using. What brand/model are you using and do you have digit maps and dial rules set? Also, I know it may be a "trivial" thing, but say you have extension 345 ..AND.. you want to dial a phone # 345-647-1121. How is the system supposed to know if you want to dial long distance, local 10 digit, local 7 digit or local extension? That is why the routing is not "instant" in most cases.

thanks for the note. i am using polycom 550, polycom 650s (all functioning the same way)

you are right about the potential confusion....but thats what setting the dialplan in the system is all about...but being a newbie here (2 weeks now on trixbox thats all) i am perhaps missing somethings...

i use 0 to dial out
i am not doing anything to setup the dialpla n for"3xx"...the system is applying the extension dialplan...so i guess i need to be able to modify that so that it knows there are only 3 digits. i suppose one of the challenges with teh system is that it was designed originally with the north american dialplan in mind....i am in australia so the dialplan is very different (incidentally, having had a lot of experience on Nortel DMS and Lucent 5ESS i do know they had a lot of mods to be able to handle international numbering plans !!!)

so hopefully this answers your query on dialrules...unless i have misinterpreted

i have no idea what you mean by digit maps...can you please explain ? is this a GUI thing or do i need to config some files somewhere...could be key eh ? please let me know

I think that the polycoms have settings in them to tell them "when" to dial. You'll probably have better luck in the Polycom Forum. I don't use that brand of phone, but I think that's where you need to set up your digit maps (tell the phone what numbers or patterns you will dial) so it knows when to "send" for you.

your suggestions have set me off on the right path...in fact i can now see how i fix the post dial delay problem and one of my others posts..which was in respect of second dialtones ! editing the digitmaps (now that i have read some of rfc3435) seems to fix all of these issues !

ps: dont suppose you can help on my 3rd post...which was why am i getting inbound SIP trunk call disconnects on answer...dont suppose that is a polycom issue eh ? suppose not...everything else works for inbound SIP from my PSTN gateway...just a problem with the ITSP route...
