Hey folks.

I've installed a Sangoma A200 PCI Express card with a FXO module in my server. It works OK however the card is very noisey.

I would expect better from such a good brand.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Can you explain this a little more?

What exactly is noisy on the card? I've never used a PCI-e version but all the pci cards i've ever gotten don't even have fans on them or any moving parts. Is it' buzzing or what?

My trucks noisy too btw, can you fix that?

Have you tried hooking up a test phone to the line to make sure it's not just the line?

Have you tried different ports on the card?

Have you tried a different phone to make sure it's not the phone?

Have you called sangoma?

I can't see it being the card but anything is possible I guess

In my case i just hear an obvious hiss. this may be due to analogue lines, but a normal phone on the same lines does not have the same level of hiss.

There was a crackle when someone spoke, you'd hear a related crackle, but I turned the gains down and it improved.

Different ports have the same level of hiss.

I there somwhere to reduce high frequencies, a bit like dolby noise reduction or even just a graphics equaliser.

Just to note/recap there is a level of hiss present on external connections that is not there on internal calls.

ok i have never used

ok i have never used ztmonitor - what is it?

I adjusted rxgain in zapata.conf (or was it zaptel.conf??) to 6.0

It's not the phone line - it does it without a line connected. the PSTN line connected directly is actually fantastic quality (better than what I would expect).

It's def something to do with the card and not the phones/line.

I havn't phoned sangoma. This noise is only audible on my end - the remote party is fine.

Background noise on FXS with Sangoma A200

Same problem for me with Sangoma A200 card.
I have also tried to change PowerSupply, Analog phone, PSTN Line, Sangoma Card (a new A200) but without any results: the background noise on the FXS port remains.
Sangoma support guys didn't give me any right solution. I think the problem is related to magnetc field and hardware filtering which is not good enought.
With digium's TDM analog card, there wasn't any problems.

Wow...I think you just have some bad luck. I've had some REALLY crappy lines and no matter what the sangoma cards just work. Pretty weird to hear this

How are you adjusting the line gains........ARE you adjusting the line gains??? Just saying "it's noisy" doesn't help much. Not knowing what ztmonitor is kind of makes me wonder if you have it set up right.

ouch!!!

my rxgain is set at 6.0 and my txgain is at something similar.

The noise remains when even when you remove the PSTN line.

I think the noise is due to the interferance from the PCI Express bus. It probablly differs between servers and it probably just very noisey on mine.

In my case I think it's someting like a magnetic field not right filtered by the card.

Just for giggles what

Your adjusting FXS gain as well as FXO correct?

I've never used FXS ports so not sure where you adjust that.

I think you add FXS gain statements afte the fxo_ks statement and then add gain statements for FXO after the fxs_ks statement in zapata.conf. The terminology is kind of confusing.

For giggles maybe turn your gains down to -10 and see what happens.
