settings for IVR recording

Hello
I recently purchased an IVR recording service,they have come back to me with some questions that I don't understand fully,if anyone can point me in the right direction.

They asked me the following questions in relation to the format of the recordings.

1. Bit depth: (i.e., 8 bit, 16 bit) --Whats the difference
2. Sample rate: (i.e., 8kHz, 11kHz) --Again whats the difference
3. Codec: (i.e., Ulaw, PCM) --I am based in europe so Ulaw ?
4. Extension: (i.e., .wav, .mp3) mp3 I presume ?
