BLF is currently supported on the SAP932, but I do not know if SLA is. You cannot do it on the 941/942 because the keys are not programmable.

thanks
what is BLF?
If it is just like SLA so at least i can put it on the secretary's desk to see if her manager is on the phone- and to see if the workers are on the phone too, I'd buy a Linksys 962 and the 932 for the secretaries.
However, would this work with the employees who use Linksys 942s?
Also, in addition to the SPA932, would polycom phones support SLA, or just Linksys phones?
Thanks

SLA is Shared Line Appearence - "Joe you have a call on line 2" - Joe hits line 2
BLF is Blind Lamp fied - Receptionist can see the state of all the phones on the system - "Sorry Joe is on a call right now, would you like his voicemail.

Oh. When freepbx will get the SLA feature working, which phones will support SLA?
There are multiple managers, and each has a secretary. I'd want the secretary to know if her boss is on the phone or not, and even tell him to pick up the call that's on hold. No need for SLA throughout the whole company since it's useless for that matter.
However, I'd like to know which phones would support what I just mentioned, because it's worth it to switch at least those phones.
Thanks again

You can currently do it with Polycom, Aastra, and SNOM unless I am mistaken and I don't think the FreePBX piece is scheduled until FreePBX v3. In the meantime you have to configure it manually in the sla.conf file.

Greatt. I changed the topic name. If anyone got SLA working on any of these phones Polycom preferred (since Kerry rates Polycom and Linksys very high), please let me know if and how it was done.
Thanks a lot

Blind Lamp Field? how about Busy Lamp Field or Busy Line Field. Shows on/off hook status.
I can't seem to find a specific set of directions to enable BLF on my Polycom 650's and with the attendant console. I find bits of references to Buddy Watch (BW) somewhere and Presence? Where do I set these? I am using a [mac-address]-directory.xml file that is linked for all users. I have SIP 2.2.0 and will be installing 2.2.2 next week. Just point me in the right direction... Thanks - Dale
First you need to enable presence in the sip.cfg file. Search for presence, and enable it (you have to change a 0 to a 1 somewhere). I'm not in front of my system so I can't be exact, but I don't remember it being hard. Then, reboot the phones, and add contacts and change the buddy watch feature to enabled--located in the contact directory. Make sure your hints are set up properly in Asterisk (they usually are), and you should be good to go.

Best reference site I found on the trials and tribulations of Asterisk and Shared Line Appearance (SLA) operation is at http://www.smartvox.co.uk/astfaq_asterisk_sla.htm
Very well written, and full credit to John Quick at Smartvox Limited in the UK for a very thorough and well written article.
