Unable to ring an idle extension

After some trials and tribulations, it's up and running, except extension 201. At some point it became busy. The phone looks fine, but calling it one gets "The person at extension 201 is on the phone ...". I can make calls from this phone. I was able to call it earlier before I added the trunks, incoming/outgoing routes. I've rebooted the phone to no avail, I've searched the web and this forum and found no answer or even a hint. Do Not Disturb is off. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

I would also like to remove the "n new missed calls" from the display of these phones. Is there a way to do this?

Does anyone have any idea here? I haven't been back to the church to poke around with this more, but would rebooting the server make a difference??, what if I re-format the phone (I've heard there is a way to do this, but haven't found it yet). Is there any further information I can supply?

I know this might sound silly but, can you see if DND is enabled on the phone? You can also do a *79 to turn off the DND function.

I have Snom 320 phones and before I could figure out my problem some of my users would quickly push the DND button and it would show off on the phone but the asterisk machine would make the phone unavailable.

Anyway, give it a try and see if that works?

I did just that; dialed *79 and send and heard "Do Not Disturb" a brief pause "has been turned off".

When I setup this device, I pressed the DND button twice, turning it on to see the "Do Not Disturb" dialog, and then back off. Apparently * didn't get the second press. There must be some kind of dialog between the device and * that doesn't get recognized in this specific situation that isn't limited to a specific mfg/model.

I wonder if there's a way to see a graphical view of the phones status (HUDLite maybe) that I haven't downloaded yet.

What really happens when you press your phone's DND button?

Is it a a local feature on your phone rejecting the incoming call, or is it sending some feature code to asterisk. If it's a local feature asterisk may have no idea of the phone's status.

Flash operator panel can show you the phone's status. It should already be installed with Trixbox at http:[trixboxip]/panel.

DND on a handset is local to the handset. Only the DND xml application on Aastra phones (if you have the script) can pass the DND info back to Asterisk.

@ Kerry: If DND is local, and it was off on the phone, why did I have to dial *79 so Asterisk would turn off the DND after activated/de-activated it by pressing the button on the phone?

I could understand if the phone was telling Asterisk that it is busy when DND is active at the phone, but in this instance it was active on the server, but not the phone, but nobody (I was the only one there during install/config) had activated it in any other way.

It is certainly an Asterisk problem. I specifically set my Snom phones to use *78 & *79 to place the phone on DND. There is even CLI output on the Asterisk machine indicating that it got the DND command.

The problem is though is you cannot quickly press the DND button on & off. It takes about 5-10 seconds for the Asterisk machine to recognize the DND command and if you press the button again before that time it does not see it.

So in my case if a user mistakenly pressed DND it sends the command to Asterisk but, then press it again before Asterisk has processed the first command it does not recognize it and the phone is put on DND with no visual queue on the phone nor through any interface in the Asterisk system to indicate to an admin that the phone is on DND.

The only reason why I found this out is because I asked the user the last few buttons they pressed and thankfully they remembered. =)

It sounds like this:

User presses DND
Asterisk gets message from phone indicating it's busy (that's why when it's called I hear Allison's(?) voice telling me the person I've called is on the phone).

User Presses DND again
Asterisk gets another message from the phone indicating it will again accept calls.
Asterisk will now pass calls to the phone.

When a user presses the button twice in rapid succession, ASTERISK fails to recognize the second and leaves the line busy.

This is a good thing to know. It sure doesn't sound like a phone problem. Happens with Snom and Polycom. Kerry, I'll be that if you try this, you'll see the same behavior with other phones as well.
