I am so over waiting for that or anything from trixbox these days. You might see it int he next 1 - 2 years.
Sadly, I have low expectations with releases as well.
I was a little disappointed that no one celebrated the 2 year anniversary of the last release of hud-lite. Just think, we've been putting band aids on this thing for a whole two years now! My how time flies.
It was pulled from deployment. I was also told that there will be a charge for this software? What the heck are they doing? They can't deliver as promised and they are releasing a promised product and are going to charge for this. I do nto think that woudl be a problem for charging if they would deliver as promised. I am wondering about the long term viability for my clients. Will this product and solution still be around for years to come? I don't know whatto think anymore.
Not meaning to troll but there are about three alternatives to HUD 2 and HUD 3. Both open source and closed. Is there any reason why these aren't being used? Is there something you're looking for that's not in the alternatives?

We are working hard on HUD3 for CE and we will be charging for it. HUD3 is a complete rewrite from HUD2 the only similarity is the look and feel. HUD3 is built with a much more scalable a robust architecture. We have been working to get HUD3 working flawlessly on trixbox pro. This was completed a few weeks ago and HUD3 is now available to trixbox pro users. We will now turn our attention to HUD3 for CE. I want to make sure we meet the next announced HUD3 release date. So I will not announce a date until I am sure we can meet it. HUD3 for CE will be done by Q3 this year. As for the exact date it will be announced as soon as I have it.
In the mean time you can buy a pro system if you want HUD3. HUD3 comes free with all trixbox Pro software packages.
Here are some snippets of what we've been told over the last year...
"While HUDlite for CE still has a bit to be disired (and will be addressed with HUDlite3 in May/June)" 3/16/2008 - Dev Blog
"As soon as HUD3 ships we will be spending some time getting HudLite3 out and making sure it is rock solid. HUD3 ships around June/July so hopefully HudLite3 will only be about a month after that."
5/5/2008 - Forums (kerryg)
"The last update I posted said July/august timeframe. Thats the most current info I have."
"HUD Personal - Free
A scaled down version of the full product but still has some of the cool new features like being able to listen to your voicemail from HUD." 09/22/2008 - Dev Blog regarding licensing structure
"HUD3
We are making major inroads in getting HUD3 finished. It just went into RC1 for PBXtra so trixbox Pro and then trixbox CE will be going into beta early in December" 11/28/2008 - Dev Blog
And now, for my rant...
Dell has implemented what I believe is one of the smartest methods to ensure customer satisfaction. If I order a machine or a part, I'm given a 3 week ETA, and I receive the product in a week. If they had quoted one week, and the UPS driver stubbed his toe on the way here, making delivery a day or two late, I would have been disappointed that I was forced to wait longer than quoted. Dell set my expectations, then exceeded them. Fonality has spent the last *year* blowing smoke to the point where I have no clue what it is they will be delivering, nor when they will be delivering it. This also means that I have had to be the bearer of bad news to my customers for a year, and have in turn made recommendations that I now regret (e.g. Don't purchase a superior product, HUD3 is right around the corner).
Secondly, I have had no interest what-so-ever in Trixbox Pro. I don't want to configure my phone system in the cloud, or hope that this sinking ship will stay afloat long enough for my phone system to see it's one year anniversary. I turned to open source because I was tired of commercial products and licensing. I use CE because it has been a great open source project, much like the great open source projects that it is built upon, not because I was hoping to find another commercial product to dump money into. All this time spent on developing a product that is inherently against the ideals of the bulk of the asterisk/trixbox/freepbx community seems a bit ridiculous.
HUD, and the hopes that the newest version was going to be great, were the only things really tying me to Trixbox. My advice to Fonality is that they give universal compatibility to HUD3 to be sold/used with different products, because I can't imagine people will be sticking around here much longer.

Why would you set a customer expectation that you have no control over? This is the type of integrator behavior that destroys customers faith in the viability of OTS.
As Sean from I9 pointed out there are alternatives.
I always play a wait and see attitude with any Open Source vendor or project.

I agree with Scott on this one. I am disappointed about the delays too, but I guess we shouldn't offer something that doesn't exist. I wouldn't even offer anything that hasn't been well tested for at least six months to a year.
The customers were sold on HUD Lite, a product initially offered nearly three years ago. Today this product is still unusable. So the fact that it has been around for a while means nothing.
HUDlite is not an open source project, or else I'd like to think we could have rallied together to fix the issues it has now. Instead, Fonality has kept it proprietary in order to use it as a marketing tool, but has somehow forgotten that making false promises for a year, extending deadlines, and not delivering on their initial licensing structure completely destroys any value it would have to market both the product itself and PBXtra/TB Pro.
If they had said, "We know the current version of HUDlite is broken, we're working on a new version, we'll let you know when it's done" then I wouldn't be writing this thread.
-THX2000
Yeah, I understand what you mean. I usually try a product for that length first and knowing that Hudlite was broken I never offered it to clients.
@seanh: The interfaces for most of the 3rd party systems are not nearly as convenient as HudLite in my opinion, atleast of what I have seen.
@thx2000: I agree with you about Trixbox Pro. None of our clients are willing to spend the kind of money, nor do they want the system to be in the cloud.
@wrc1045: I am in a position where I am now looking at other products entirely. I love Trixbox CE, but i feel that the support for Trixbox CE is almost non-existent. It to me, feels as if Fonality is pushing its other products and Trixbox CE is being swept under the carpet...
Can ISyphony and similarly HUD3 differentiate between "User and Device" and "Extension" modes in Trixbox?
Cheers!
Glenn
iSymphony fully supports device and user mode. Give it a try ;)

Hud3 for CE - and still we wait, what a joke!
iSymphony - Well at the price it is my customers would rater put in OCS - especially since Asterisk is TLS capable.
I think iSymphony looks good, but is overpriced for my customers.....

Astassistant does not support external transfers, Thats one of the main reasons we stopped using it on reception. I think astassistant is a fantastic product with the phone boook intergrated too...
thx2000 has nailed it. I've held on to TrixBox CE based almost solely on the promise of HUD3. Not only did Fonality announce HUD3 a full 9 months too early, it turns out that they've missed all of the expectations they set. Where is the integrity? While I've seen my expectations dashed and my trust in fonality eroded, I watched my competitors who work with Digium go from strength to strength and develop excellent working relationships. The reasons for sticking with TrixBox are now all but gone.
A company that betrays its loyal followers is not really one I want to be involved with. Fonality, you've made a lot of bad decisions recently. You've lost my goodwill and now if you want it back, you will have to work hard to re-earn it.
Take the RE (ality) out of Fonality and what are you left with, Fony, yep, sounds right to me!
