I know that some folks are using the 440 for trixbox. I just saw that Dell currently has a special on a base SC440 for $249.00. I think this is only through today or tomorrow, not sure. Dual Core 1.6 GHz processor, 512MB RAM (upgrade to a gig for $29), and an 80GB SATA drive-

Thanks Doug

Let me know how they work out. Interested to know if there's any difference from D to E and how it works out with trixbox. Talked to Dell rep while back and she told me that E is lower end processor, is that true?

I have used them for two

I have used them for two friends. The only problem I had is the Centos did not recognized the network interface. I have installed an old network cards in both and they bee working great since. We paid $500 at the time.

Get the Penttium

I have been using SC440 for almost 2 yrs with no issues, my only input is please use the Pentium chips, not the AMD or Celeron, I had issue with them in the past on the TB CE. I have done 4 TB Pro with no issues, they are a great deal.

I know that Greg - GSNover -

I know that Greg - GSNover - has been using them for some time with no problems. He has documented the broadcom driver install somewhere in the forums - a quick search should turn it up. As for the processing power, we have just retired our original trixbox test server. It was a P4 900MHz box with 1 GB RAM. Ran for about a year in production with no problems in our office. Small office 4 POTS lines. We only replaced it because we had some "newer" hardware not being used- p4 2.8 GHz machine! For the majority or our installs, less than 25 extensions, I thing the processor will be fine.

The promotion I mention

The promotion I mention above comes with a dual core Pentium processor. Specifically-
Dual Core Intel® Pentium®E2160, 1.8GHz, 1MB Cache, 800MHz FSB. There isn't an option for Celeron or AMD processors.

The worst testing we had was with an AMD Athlon X2 64 processor. Setup and call quality were fine but calls would just disconnect out of the blue. Tried all sorts of things and different FXO cards. Problem went away when we went back to P4 or higher Pentiums. Haven't really experienced AMD processor problems with anything but that specific test. Actually went through the FtOCC course with an AMD based laptop and tb in VMWare with no problems.
