Large updates can be fun and challenging at the same time. This is one of my customers in his office, we are doing a phased cut for 350 users from an Avaya Open Office system. You can see the Avaya is still in use on his desk. The Open Office is trunked h.323 to the new server.

The Aastra 55i's are being used for all but a few managers that wanted color touch screen phones. The Cisco is in the foreground with a custom splash image.

We have 4 digit dialing integrated between both system. SIP trunks on the new server are also available for certain route classes on the Avaya.

Just Curious

Do you prefer the Aastra 55i's over other phones? I am curious, in a large roll out, what types of decisions led you to those phones over other SIP phones? I don't have resources to test all brands of phones, right now I'm playing with the Linksys SPA942 and it seems nice.

Thanks..

Nothing comes close to the

Nothing comes close to the level of integration of the Aastra phones. The XM applications, provisioning scripts and direct support place them in a class by themselves.

The ergonomics of the phone could use some improvement. You can't cradle the headset in your shoulder, the function keys are two small and the dial pad is rubber with poor tactile feedback. You can't tilt in sufficiently either. 99.9% opf the folks don't care about these things.

The Aastra's are also very reliable.

Intensity!

This guy looks pretty intense! Hope it went smoother than his expression might show!

And to be clear, this was a cut over from Avaya Open Office to TB????

we use the 57i CT the phones work well the lcd on the dect are kinda crap but it doesnt affect performance. I have wondered off far from my desk ( a few buildings over) and still held conversations. over all I would give it an 8 of 10

He's not that intense and

He's not that intense and yes it is a phased replacement (3-4 months) of the Avaya Open Office. The intent is to have all of the stations cut by the time the lease is up in June.

Server Size

So, are you serviing all 350 people on one server or spreading it across several connected servers?

One server, the call volume

One server, the call volume is relatively light. The IP Office only had two PRI's feeding it. Currently some traffic is routed from the IP office over the dedicated IAX trunk in the new server and the conversely the new server can dial using the PRI's.
