I'm in the Austin Texas area and I need some recomendations on a VOIP provider. I am currently using Vitelity through TimeWarner business class and I am getting a lot of dropped calls. So who should I try and who should I stay away from? I'm asking because it seems that each provider is good/bad depending on different areas of the contry

Thankx.

Are you using SIP or IAX

Are you using SIP or IAX trunks? IAX trunks tunnel multiple calls in one path. This is more friendly to a DOCSIS connection.

I'm using SIP but what you

I'm using SIP but what you say makes sense as the cable tech mentioned about arp storms, DOCSIS, and how terminal services connections cause problems.

I'll check into the IAX.

Anybody else?

You should try voip.ms They

You should try voip.ms

They are an excellent provider with good rates.

They have proxy servers in both Dallas and Houston.

Do a ping test and tracert to the following

iax2.us1.voip.ms
iax2.us2.voip.ms

That should give you an idea of latency and the number of hops between you and the provider. You should go the IAX route instead of SIP if you are using a cable connection.
