I was looking around on Cydia tonight and stumbled upon Siax (siax.org). It is a sip/iax client for the iPhone that connects directly to your sip/iax provider, in our case trixbox! I finally got Fring up and running two days ago but was not impressed with the quality, delay, or the amount of time it took to connect to trixbox. Siax connects in no time and the delay is much better. The only caveat is that you need to jailbreak your iPhone to access the Cydia installer. My next step will be to see if it will run across 3G with the voip3g app installed on the iPhone as well. I just thought this was really good news to iPhone users!
New SIP client for iPhone!
Works very well over 3G!
This is great news, but I just got rid of my iPhone (calls dropping like crazy) :( Does anyone know of an alternative for the Blackberry Bold?
Its a shame that you can't keep the app open if you open any other app though.
You need to install backgrounder from Cydia. The WiFI connection will drop if the phone goes into sleep mode but the 3G connection won't. You can also install Easy WiFi and run that in the background. The only downside to keeping your WiFi network open is that it drains your battery faster. 3G seems to work well enough though.
voIPover3G also enable VoIP over 3g and edge..
Though I canceled my contract and just use my iphone prepaid now so.. Won't be using that..
