pfSense vs. Smoothwall regarding QOS

Hello, I have been playing around with trixbox for a while and so far so good.
Just want to know about QOS. I am using Smoothwall 3.0 at my network and I have a QOS option for VoIP, however I am unsure of whether or not this aims at SIP and/or IAX ports vs. simply detecting a regular provider such as vonage. Be aware that I will be connecting a few remote IP phones to my trixbox as well once I fully master it.
I have heard success with pfSense but it won't detect my network cards with the live CD and I have no idea on how to convert the .img file to an iso. I already tried magicISO for this but it says it either couldn't find the file or it's an invalid extension or something like that.

All advise is welcome
Thanks in advance

pfsense

why don't you download live CD iso image from one of the mirrors? For example

As he already

As he already mentioned:

It has been a while but I

It has been a while but I thought the .img download was for an embedded system and the iso was for running live (saving configs to floppy or other device) or could be installed to a local disk. Did you download the .iso or are you having trouble burning a bootable CD?

Mine has two Intel 10/100 NICs and whatever is onboard a small form factor IBM PC. There is a setup wizard for a basic QOS with VoIP options. You can add IAX2 manually if you need it. No local QOS is perfect but this one is working much better than a router I was using originally.

I dont know how to work with

I dont know how to work with the embedded system!
Again, the Live CD wont detect my network cards.
Therefore, how would I be able to either burn an img file or convert it to an ISO image so I can retreive the full version of pfsense, OR can anyone rate me smoothwall which I have had absolute success with for quite a while?

Well I'm confused. Why are

Well I'm confused. Why are you trying to convert the .img to .iso? You burn the live CD from the .iso download and boot the machine with it. the .img is for an embedded system and likely won't work for you.
Did you download something that looks like pfSense-1.2-LiveCD-Installer.iso ? That is what you want. The .iso is a bigger file ~64M

I'm assuming you can burn a bootable CD from an .iso. If not let us know.

Isn't a live CD for simply testing out the system and not to physically install the stuff on the computer directly? Please correct me if I am wrong. And if i am right, how would I install the program to begin with if the title of this is a "live" CD?

Installing from the live CD

Installing from the live CD is an option on the menu after you boot it up. The "greenest" way to use it besides embedded mode is directly off the CD (Live CD) without any hard disk but you can easily install it to a hard disk from the menu after it boots. Maybe you don't see the option if nothing is detected.
Check the hardware compatibility list: http://www.freebsd.org/releases/6.2R/hardware-i386.html

I see. I will look into

I see. I will look into this. In case it wont detect my network cards once again, will smoothwall's QOS do the same job?

I haven't looked at

I haven't looked at smoothwall in a long time. If it is still current then I suppose it would work just fine. Hit the forums and see what their users are saying. pfSense does a fine job too.
Don't confuse the Live CD with a desktop linux or some other live cd, a firewall does very specific tasks and doesn't have to be laden with disks and applications. You can run it completely from the CD (all in memory) or installed to a disk. But works either way.
