Spec out a server?

I need to build a new Trixbox for my company. We currently have 8 Polycom IP 550Hd phones on another system that I can re-provision for trixbox, that isnt the problem.

I want to start out with the CE Edition of Trixbox and if the need arises upgrade to Pro. My question is more about how do I figure out the correct amount of proc and memory for this? I plan on using an HPdl320 raid 1.

Is there a memory/user formula to follow? Or just throw as much as we can at it?

At home, I have CE running on VMWARE esx 3.5i and it works nicely for me.

thanks

Jeff

You won't need any good

You won't need any good hardware for a server with only a few phones, like the one you described. You can get by with 512MB RAM, and a low end processor. If you want it to last for a while, just get a dual core/quad core, with 2GB of ram, that way you have plenty of space to expand.

Put two hard drives and a

Put two hard drives and a gig of RAM in the DL320 you will be all set.

DL320 is IDE and supports software RAID only.

I have a serer

i have a server for my project, its a Dell Power Edge 860, I was going to go with an HP, but we have something sitting around.

It has the Dell SAS 5/iR controller and the broadcom netxtreme gigabit ethernet nic, the nic has 2 ports, I am wondering if the base os will let us team them or not? And I havent had time to look closely at the server, but does anyone know if it is software RAID or HW based RAID 1 ?

Thanks

jeff
