i want to be able to type some thing such as a recording or a vm and it should put it in voice i under stand that this package is used for the directory but i want to know if i can use it with anything else.

You could use Festival (which is in the packages too I think) - there's plenty of sites explaining how to use it, however, once installed:
type:
festival --tts Or there are are many commands within festival once you type 'festival' at the terminal. You can output to wav files etc.... so this might be just what you are looking for.
