trixbox blue interface

I couldn't take the green interface anymore (No offense to Kerry and the rest of the trixbox crew. I'm sure alot of people like the color) so I scoured around the code and figured out which css files are used for what and where the images are located. I'm in the process of documenting this but in the meantime here are some screenshots. It looks like some of the code is there so you can actually select a theme but it is not being utilized. Also all the css files and images are still there from the old trixbox interface. Some cleanup could definitely be done. I wanted to change the color of the trixboxCE logo but I'm not sure of the legality issues.

Love it,

Love it, easier on the eyes. Why not release the names of the files and what you had to change and maybe someone would make a theme module. Should not be too hard if you have any notes on what you had to change that would really help. Could even personalize it with a new logo.

Thank you,
Engineer Tim

As for the "the legality

As for the "the legality issues" when changing the logo, there is none. You can change it to whatever you like.
You can even rebrand the whole trixbox to BlueBox together with your nice blue theme and sell it, rent it or whatever you like to do with.
It is called GPL. Read more about it here:
http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html

That is not true, the logo

That is not true, the logo is a registered trademark and is not covered by the GPL so you can't legally modify the trixbox logo. You can however remove it or replace it which is perfectly acceptable.

My comment was that you can

My comment was that you can CHANGE the logo, not 'modify' it.
If the logo is a registered trademark, why does it not have the 'tm' mark next to it?

From wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trademark):
A trademark or trade mark, identified by the symbols ™ and ®, or mark is a distinctive sign or indicator used by an individual, business organization or other legal entity to identify that the products and/or services to consumers with which the trademark appears originate from a unique source of origin, and to distinguish its products or services from those of other entities.

From wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trademark_infringement):
In many countries, but not in the United States, which recognizes common law trademark rights, a trademark which is not registered cannot be "infringed" as such, and the trademark owner cannot bring infringement proceedings

So, if an Italian voip provider change the trixbox logo and you want them to stop doing that you face a lot of paper work and money to just open the case outside US.

Nice, I love that new

Nice, I love that new color. Its definitely easier on the eyes.

I never understand by Fonality does not allow a simple module for changes themes. I mean I know they have a lot on their hands but Elastix has managed to provide that, And they are barely starting.

Anyways. Good going on that, If you can please release what files have been modified that would be awesome.

Thanks.

Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the input. Question: Can I add the FreePBX logo or is what I'm using not considered FreePBX because of the fork? IMHO the FreePBX guys deserve some credit. Also I'm in the process of documenting the css right now. They were not commented well so I basically had to pick a color like purple, insert into the css and see what changed. I plan on posting the modified css files with comments to make it easier to follow. Stay tuned!

Logo Question

Can I use older trixbox logos? There are quite a few leftover in various directories. What about resizing the logo or using a smaller size I find elsewhere?

necits, you can do whatever

necits, you can do whatever you like to do with trixbox and post whatever findings you obtain. You can change back to FreePBX logos and what not. You can even provide a script that does all the changes and post it on Internet. And as trixbox is licensed under GPL you are free to do so per GPL.

You can even 'fork' trixbox and rebrand it to star-box with your nice theme and rip everything from trixbox site and put it on your site. And do so for every version that fonality releases.

Some people don't like this, but it is the same practice that fonality does with FreePBX so they can't complain about it.

I use a utility for FireFox called Firebug, nice tool that allows you to edit css directly and see what changes as you go along.

Keep up the good work.

mickecards is not totally

mickecards is not totally correct. as kerry stated earlier the logos are all trade marks so you may not do as you wish with them. Replacing the logo with your own is allowed but if your using one that is owned by someone you must comply with their trademark policy. I dont believe the trixbox trademark policy would prevent you from using prior art in place of current art. The freePBX policy may not allow you to use their name in this manner as there are alot of politics in our little eco system. Best advise if your going to use a trade mark get permission, if your going to replace the logo with a picture of your dog go ahead.

Fonalitys text about

Fonalitys text about it:
http://www.trixbox.com/about-us/trademark-policy

Fonality have registered the word TRIXBOX, the present logo and the previous logo.

To clarify the point:
You can rebrand trixbox as long as you don't use the three above listed items, the word TRIXBOX and the two logos. The rest is fine.

So if I modify the theme I

So if I modify the theme I have to remove all references to trixbox? I wanted to add a something like powered by FreePBX but I also wanted to keep the trixbox logo somewhere because I am using some of that code also.

No, you don't need to remove

No, you don't need to remove any trixbox reference just to change the color theme.
You can contribute by doing a script that changes the color used by trixbox and post that wherever you like. However, you can't change the trixbox logo. That has to stay as it is as fonality owns the trademark for the logo, the layout and color.
There is nothing preventing you to provide a logo of your own with another name if you like.

To summarize:
If you just want to change the color theme, feel free to do that and post your changes somewhere for others to use.
If you like to add FreePBX (logo or text) you need to contact Philippe over at freepbx.org or bandwith.com who owns that trademark and get their approval.

Thanks Mikael for all the

Thanks Mikael for all the info. That definetly clears things up for me. I may end up building my own distro. I know it's GPL but I don't feel right putting my name on someone elses work. Anyway, I'm almost done documenting the css files and locations. As soon as I am done I will start work on a sctipt.

Thanks Again

Any progress?

I'd love to find all the files. I have found so many unused files from old versions. I found the basics, but not the menu. Any progress on documenting your changes?

Hey Michael, we've all been

Hey Michael, we've all been patiently waiting on your documentation on changing Trixbox background colors. Have you completed your doco? If so, would you be kind enough to share it with the community. Green is a soothing calm color but blue is just easier on the eyes.

Theme Roadmap

I've managed to change the theme for 2.8 on my Trixbox. I have one question though...

Where does the dropdown menu get its styles from?

I was able to rip through it this afternoon but kind of got stuck on the menu. Spent enough time on it.

I picked out the basic stuff you would change out, backgrounds, fonts, fore colors, borders and sizes etc... even changed out the favicon.

I documented it the whole way and also created a folder structure for all the files that were edited.

Man there is stuff inheriting all over. Mountain of CSS. You can tell when you really start digging how far a long this thing is with some of the abandon stylesheets and so on.

Anyway if someone will help me out with the menu's that would be great. Once that is done I'll post the Roadmap and the file structure so all can benefit if they so choose.

Thanks in advance.

I have done it.

Its not at all straight forward. there are alot of places and some pretty complex coding involed. I was not smart enough to think about doing a tutorial or a wiki while I was doing it so its all in my brain. also I am not a coder by nature but I am logical and there layout is pretty logical once you get to know it.

http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/3162/89268103.jpg

If someone else is willing to attemt this I would be glad to help. Probubyl over the phone as there will be alot of questions. all I ask is that you help me do a wiki so other can know where all the colors and images come from.

PS. it takes about 8 solid hours to chage everything but most people just one to customize the user end and that is fairly simple. couple gif's, couple logo's ans some simple color replacemtns in the code and all is good.

also colors are not as cut and dry as in most sites. the coders have been doing this for quite some time it seems as they use shorthand code alot. this make simple seraching php, tpl, and cml file futile as say the color 000666 will be writen #666 so a search for 000666 will come up with nothing.

#666 isn't #000666 (slightly

#666 isn't #000666 (slightly greenish blue) it's #666666 (gray).
If color in given in 3 digits, assume each RGB value is individually repeated. Typically you'll see a lot of #000 and #fff for black and white, but grays too (#ccc, #666, #444, etc).
