Canadian Provider

I've been looking to add a VOIP line to my trixbox to supplement my PSTN connection.

I'm considering www.voicenetwork.ca or www.sunrisephone.com.

Does anyone have any comments on these two providers?

Also, should I just forward my PSTN line to my voip provider? How many outgoing calls does a voip provider allow you to make? How would the call waiting work on my voip line for incoming calls?

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks.

The number of simultaneous

The number of simultaneous call that your provider can provide is totally up to your provider. Some allow just one, but many will allow multiple 'trunks', usually with an additional charge, so you would have to talk to your provider.

You could probably just forward your PSTN number ot your VoIP provider, depends on the phone company, sometimes there is a charge for this, call Bell.

If you do 'forward' your number to your VoIP provider, you'll still be incurring a monthly fee from your telco for that number. One possible avenue is for that provider to have that number transferred to their service. The montly service fee will be payable to them, but might be cheaper.
If you do forward, talk to your VoIP provider about the CallerID. You probably want to maintain the same callerid as the line you forward from?

Call waiting, ...again details that the provider would be better off giving you, and depends on the type of phone you'll be using at your location, but if they support multiple trunks, then it will ring the second line (if available) on yoru phone, and if no answer, goes to Asterisk voicemail. If they only allow 1 line, it may goto the voicemail system of your VoIP provider.

I'm looking at keeping my telco, just downgrading my service to only callerid. The call forwarding is a free option, and would still allow me to call out with that line with my trixbox.

I'm looking at allowing two simultaneous calls with my trixbox through my voip. I'm also planning on setting up a softphone on my laptop so that when I am away I can still make calls without having to use my cell phone.

I don't necessarily want the call waiting to beep the phone that I am on a call with, I'd rather it ring the ringgroup and give me an opportunity to answer it with another extension (given the fact it's mostly my wife on the phone) or then go to voicemail.

Thanks.

One way to set up VoIP is to

One way to set up VoIP is to keep the old landline in service, but get Call Forward Busy and set that to forward to your VoIP line. Many VoIP providers let you set your outgoing Caller ID to anything you want which allows you to have your outgoing VoIP calls showing up as your original non-voip number.

Now you'll have one incoming landline + one or more incoming voip lines. Generally you can place several outgoing calls as long as you're on a per-minute plan rather than flat rate.

VouceNetwork

I'm thinking of signing up with this provider. Anyone have any comments on then as a voip provider?

I didn't find much with a search.

Thanks.

I've set up a client to use them for outgoing service and they haven't complained, and actually preferred it to some alternatives. I can't speak for their incoming service, however, as I've never used it.

I actually have a voicenetwork did and use them for basic outbound calls. So far so good. The web portal is similar to les.net and their settings is same to les.net. Call quality is good so far. No registration problem as of today. Also, les.net has improved significantly and the problems that used to exist no longer exist. I will highly recommend VoiceNetwork base on my experience with their servicse so far.

Voicenetworks is good

I have a Toronto based 647 and a few 800 numbers with Voicenetworks.

They are a tad expensive on the 647 DID vs. let's say, unlimitel. On the positive side their voice quality is always good.

I would highly recommend the

I would highly recommend the following:

- Transfer your DID to the VoIP provider and request Call Forward - No Answer - 5 seconds and Call Forward - Busy from the VoIP provider's Telco line (MUST BE via the VoIP provider's Trunk line provider like when setting up a new phone number you can ask for the features that you want like hunting, etc... this way if the VoIP provider is offline, the Telco's equipment will call your Vanilla phone line)
- Get a new plain vanilla phone line (callerID optional)
- Setup an ATA device to the phone line.
- Rest is setup via Trixbox.

This way the call progress would be:

- Client calls
- Call comes in via VoIP Provider's Telco Lines
-If VoIP Provider lines are busy, failover to vanilla phone line
-If Your Trixbox is not answering within 5 seconds of ringing, failover to vanilla phone line
- Have ATA Device and Trixbox handle calls via Vanilla phone line.
-If Internet line is down, only local office works.

Only thing is if your VoIP provider can support this.
