2 x 7940 - One works, One Doesn't ??? Help Please

Hello everyone. I have two cisco 7940's that i am trying to that i am trying to setup on my TB. One i was able to setup no problem but the other doesn't seem like it is communicating with the TB at all. It seems like the TFTP isn't working. It is giving me the error "W250: TFTP Error - Timeout dialplan.xml" I have tried "no", "never" and "false" for the Nat on the extension and qualify is set to "no". The config files are the same for both except the name of the file and the extension it connects to. I have double checked that the TFTP address is setup correctly on the phone. The phone that is not working seems to be a newer version of the phone than the one that is. The reason i think this is the cisco logo physically on the phone is the newer logo on the one that is not working than the one that is.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Gabe

OK, dentist time...

What firmware is on the phones?

What trixbox version are you running?

Do you have option 66 and 150 set in your DHCP server?

For that matter, are you using DHCP on the phones or Static?

Did you do a factory reset on the phones?

Did you go into SETTINGS/Network Configuration on the phones and change them to Alternate TFTP? (#32)

If so, did you enter the TFTP address? (#7)

Randy, should also add to

Randy, should also add to that list

Did you run setup-cisco?

Did you update the global settings to reflect the correct firmware version?

I think I am going to take your questions and these and merge them into a keyboard macro.

Why a macro...

Maybe we should add them to our sig!

ok i did a factory reset and

ok i did a factory reset and now it is in a continuous loop of upgrading the loader to 8.10

Upgrading loader,
Copying to bank 1
Upgrade complete
configuring vlan

it doesn't look like it updated because it still has app loader picture and date 2000 - 2006 instead of to 2008

You say the phone is not

You say the phone is not loading. tail -f /var/log/atftp.log while you reset the phone and you can watch it load the files.

Fixed. in OS79XX.TXT changed

Fixed. in OS79XX.TXT changed from P0S3-08-10-00 to P003-08-10-00. Must have changed it on accident. and secondly on the extension qualify was set to "no" i changed it to yes and it fixed it.

and what was probably worse

and what was probably worse was that the cable was incorrectly crimped hence why it wasn't connecting when i was working on it at the station

D'OH!

I hate when that happens. Known good and tested cables are always a good thing to have.

Also, I don't know your setup but just so you and everyone else knows...

DO NOT FLASH PHONES USING POE/INLINE POWER! It's very possible that the phone will reset itself in the middle of the flash process and corrupt the firmware load. (not always in an unrecoverable way, but why take the chance.) I've had a few Cisco phones that worked perfectly using a power brick but would reboot in the middle of a powerup when on Inline Power. (Constantly and consistantly. The guy I got them from hadn't bothered to try them on a power brick and deemed them worthless based on plugging them into an old C3524-PWR.)

I updated them to a newer firmware and the problem went away. My cousin was happy to get more dirt cheap phones for his office.
