Linksys SPA 962 and SPA 932 ??

Dear All,

I am getting ready to install my first trixbox at a friend’s office. He has a small multimedia firm with about 20+ employee. And I am helping him with complete IT solutions to his needs.

I now need to make a decision on what two handsets I should get him to start with. Currently we need one for the manager and another for the receptionist (preferably with an attendant console, unless there are really good software to do that).

I’ve searched for a couple of weeks and I finally found the the Linksys SPA901 and SPA962 being sold locally. I was actually going after an Aastra handset because of what I’ve read about their ease of configuration and compatibility with trixbox, but since my friend prefers locally bought phones with local warranties I’ve started to consider the Linksys SPA962. I still need to get my two phones, two power adapters and one (or maybe two) SPA932 32 Button Attendant Console from abroad.

The reason for getting the SPA932 is that he wants to quickly direct calls to the requested party and also monitor line status from a central location. Which I think (and maybe wrong) is better done using nice flashy rather than using a software that fills the screen, especially that the receptionist has other secretarial duties.

So my two questions are:
1-Will the SPA962 work reasonably easily with trixbox?? What functions will be missing in opposed to using a more supported phone like the Aastra?? Will it support different user sign in for example?
2-Will the SPA932 work reasonably easily with trixbox?? Will it be able to show by the illuminating BLF the line’s status (idle, ringing, busy, or null). And transfer Incoming calls to the proper extension with only the push of a button??

If this project goes well, I will defect from my admiration to Cisco :) and I will be eternally grateful.

With best regards,

PS. I've posted this in the Linksys vendor forum few days ago and got no reply, but now I really need one as I must get my handsets really soon :)

1 - Yes 2 - Yes The 962/932

1 - Yes
2 - Yes

The 962/932 is a great combo and I have installed it myself and the customer loved it. I have a 962 here at home and it is one of my favorites in terms of simplicity and style. For the remaining phones I would recommend 942's over the 901's because of the multiple lines and backlit screens.

Thanks a lot for your answer

Thanks a lot for your answer,

Will I be missing important functions in opposed to using a more supported phone like the Aastra??

I am interested in supporting different user sign in, sign out. (Called “extension mobility” in the Cisco IP world :)) ?

And will the 962 without the 932 be able to view the company directory?? I remember that I’ve once read the Linksys handsets does not support LDAP (or a standard protocol to retrieve the directory from trixbox) because it uses a preparatory protocol. Is that true, did it change?

Thanks again for your answers,

Linksys SPA 962

The Linksys SPA 962 works very well with Tribox CE 2.4. Also we use Queue Metrics 2.5.0 for agents and havent experienced problems. This overall for the price of the phone is a very powerful feature combined with Trixbox.

Update to there latest firmware since alot of the Linksys phones come with older versions of firmware preinstalled.

Firmware Date: 9/30/2008
Firmware Release Version: 6.1.3a

Asternic Queue Stats

Asternic has released a new version of Queue Statistics. It works very well. These are the same folks that write the Flash Operator Panel.

It can be downloaded from this link

Alternatively, try OrderlyStats

An excellent piece of software is available from Orderly Software which allows queued callers to call back while reserving their place in the queue. They also have statistics software that helps analyse the efficiency of asterisk based call centres which can be downloaded from OrderlyStats
