Mitel 5215 and 5220 problems Please help!! ** Solved **

Hi there,

I've spent many months trying to get the mitel 5215 / 5220 to work properly with trixbox CE. I've made a lot of progress but now I'm stuck with a phone that works perfectly (incoming outgoing calls) but only for a maximum of an hour before going in unavailable status. I can still make outgoing calls from it no problem.

I'm guessing its a registration problem, just strange that I can register as soon as the phone starts up...? Some ideas would be greatly appreciated as I'm have 25 of these phones all out of action cause of this problem.

Btw I've followed all the helpers at voip-info. Changing the "registration duration" on the phone makes the problem quicker if you set a shorter amount e.g. 120 secs... http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/SIP+settings+for+Mitel+Phones was followed to the t, but no futher...

Please help! :)

** Solved ****

I had version 1 firmware need to upgrade to at least version 4. Set your self up a tftp server and unzip the contents of each firmware zip into the root folder starting with version 4. Remember to set your phone mode to Sip and reset to factory settings if you haven't already done so. Also don't forget to set the tftp server on the phone. Once you have upgraded to version 4 delete the bin files from the root and unzip version 5 repeat as necessary.

Note version 6 is apparently asterisk certified firmware, expect all the features to work.

Any problems let me know!

Ed

The above link no longer works.

Does anyone know where to download the latest Mitel SIP firmware (without having to be a Mitel reseller)?

Thanks

New Links to Firmware

Hi there,

I've posted them on to my University account here:
http://www.bangor.ac.uk/~eeu01c/SIPPhones_4.0.0.13.zip
http://www.bangor.ac.uk/~eeu01c/SIPPhones_5.0.0.21.zip
http://www.bangor.ac.uk/~eeu01c/SIPPhones_6.0.0.19.zip

Make sure you upgrade the phone to version 4 first, then 5 and then finally 6.

I bricked my phone trying to flash straight to version 6.

We have several clients with version 3 firmware. The links above are no longer working and the client would like to convert their phones.

Does anyone have links to 4/5/6?

Thanks in advance

Issues

The 5220 is a great piece of hardware I love the look and feel and featureset of the device. great quality sound as well. I am running v6 firmware I would love to try the 7.0 if someone could help me find it. Does anyone else have issues with the line 2 button? You can not reset this button and I don't know what the default setting is but it does not work for me. When I press it to get a line and dial I get "no proxy configured" and a busy signal. This is a real problem because when I try to transfer calls it dafaults to picking up line 2 and incoming second calls come in on the line 2 button which doesn not work so the phone rings but no line lights up and you are unable to answer the call. This is really bumming me out as I love this phone if I could just get line two to work. Line buttons 1,3,and 4 work fine. I have spent literally hours dinking with the .cfg files to get this dang problem fixed. Anyone have this issue or know how to fix it?

Anyone know if the 5220 or 5224 will work easily over NAT? Also, does Mitel have an official site with SIP firmware? If not, where can I download it?

Problem with ver 7 download

Many thanks for re-listing the firmware updates.
I have downloaded the firmware updates but unfortunately the ver 7 download doesn't work.
When a download is attempted a file of 38k is received. Can you please check it.

Thanks

The issue I was having was that I didn't reset the settings to default after upgrading the firmware so I was using remnents of the old .cfg file that were being saved to the phone which was goofing everytihng up. runnning 7.2 nowand love it, especially the rss features.

Is there a V8 firmware out yet? If so has anyone found a working link?

Thanks

thanks!

Make sure you click the links above, and don't do save target as - you need to login with your MS Live account to download the files.

Worked great, just went through the 4 upgrades and am now using V7.

Now I just need to figure out how to get BLF working on it..

sansam

If you are using 7.2 fw. Log into the web gui and when configuring speed dial buttons you will see a speeddial+BLF under features. then you have to go into your user list config for your account and add the extensions you want to watch to BLF User Group List: comma seperated.
it works pretty good. Not as good as grandstream which has great BLF IMO. The beef I have with the mitel speed dial buttons is you can't use them to transfer or conference a call which is just stupid!

BLF

chickenrob got BLF working - thanks for instructions. I don't suppose you or anyone else on here knows of a way to program DTMF speed dials on the Mitels?? I was hoping to see a DTMF speed dial option in the feature drop down like Snoms have. Basically I need this feature to program easy access to things like attended transfer (*2) and call record (*1) onto one of the keys. Users need a one touch button to start call record and not to have to remember to dial *1.
If anyone knows of a way to do this - please post. If not - Mitel sort it out!!! oh and stop trying to lock down your firmware - our reseller was cut off by Mitel thanks to there aggressive business plan.

53xx firmware?

Thanks edwardblum it is great to have a copy of those files.
Dont suppose you have access to 53xx files?
Just got a 5312 (off ebay) and it will not work properly with asterisk have 5212 working fine :(
Pretty old firmware so without an update it is useless :(
Also thanks chickenrob, great to have BLF working. If you had not mentioned it, I would have been unaware that Mitel had got something working.

Firmaware Upgrade on 5215 Mitel IP Phones

Hi all,

I recently purchased 14 of the Mitel 5215, they all have the V 1.0. Looking to upgrade this firmware on all. I followed your links and dowloaded the files from the link. But everytime I try to upgrade i receive TFT server as file not found. The zipped files are in the root directory of the TFTP. and cannot make it to work.
My main issue to upgrade it to newer version, I already have 25 of mitel 5224 working and needed more phone. I purchased the 5215. after configuring the 5215 works fine but after an hour it goes down, not just one set all the 5215. noticed it doesn't hold the SIP server IP address for long.
If you please can help be much appreciated.

Thank you for all of your work

Firmware

dbaddour, did you have a look at this page: http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Mitel+SIP+Firmware
Also you say you put the "zipped" files in the TFTP directory - you need to unzip them before you copy them in there (maybe that is obvious but just checking).

I have noticed from the TFTP server some of the files would not install due to file not exist. any idea on that problem?

iets

open the web config on your mitel.

on the left click key programming
click a key number
click feature and change it to speeddial+blf
context should be the phone you're doing this on
type in ext you want to blf in the lable area

in the speed dial/rss address put in the ext you want to blf click apply

then click user list config
click the ext number
add the ext you want to blf in the "BLF User group list"

Reboot.

Okay, please be gentle on the newbie.
How do I access the web GUI for my 5224? Is it as simple as pointing Internet Explorer to the static IP of the set? Or is there more to it than that??

5055 Firmware wanted.

The local dealer said I had to pay $150 an hour for a tech and there was no guarantee the firmware could be found. I have one 5055 that does not work well. Others do. No NAT here. It has firmware Main Version 1.1.1.02 Boot version the same number. I read that the most recent firmware update is "SIP Release 2 – Last load for 5055 SIP Phone 2.0.1.24". So if someone has this, or something more recent that mine, and can let me download it, I'd appreciate it. I hate throwing stuff in the trash. Not releasing updates to stuff is an insult to the environment.... not to speak of my wallet. I set up a temp email addy, mitel@kyes.com and will keep it alive for a while. Do clue me in if you can. Thanks
