Hi guys,

I'm trying to get mondo-rescue setup to do backups on my trixbox (v2.6.1.10).

I've d'led all the recommended rpm packages and followed the steps from http://cat24.net/Mondoarchive.html

i can run the mindi part but when i go to run mondoarchive i get the error:

"mondoarchive: error while loading shared libraries: libnewt.so.0.51: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

I've tried force installing libnewt.so.0.51 and linking libnewt.so.0.52 to 51 but it still doesnt fix it. I know a guy had a full mondo install script up but his website isnt online anymore.

Any ideas or alternatives to mondo-rescue?

acronis

i have used acronis linux server , it has some fantastic CLI tools , you can create offsite backups and incremental backups etc cron etc etc .. i like acronis becaue it just works . straight out of the box !. it is pretty expensive , but probably the best bare metal backup and restore solution.

If you are looking for

If you are looking for acronis-type backup software, try clonezilla! It's really great, has excellent linux support, and is easy to manage on a scalable level. You can setup a backup server (just like with acronis), and store/push out images to hundreds of machines at once. It's really great (and free!)

mondo vs clonezilla

I found mondo to be very fragile - in terms of generating save images that would not restore correctly. I'm sure it works fine for most people, but my case (using a 3ware controller), I had to jump through all kinds of hoops to get it to work right, so I gave up. Clonezilla I've used too, but the biggest downside to that is that (unless I misunderstand) unlike mondo, you cannot run it live - you have to boot the server from the clonezilla CD and do your backup, so the server is off the air for the duration :(
