Buzz on Trunks

I installed Trixbox recently after a box was hit by lightning. Budgets were tight so we had to limit things to some parts we had from old machines, although not the hit machine.

We installed an ASUS motherboards, 1 GB RAM, 40 IDE Hard drive, and a TDM410 card. We struggled with a buzz on the trunks. It would give 3 short buzzes and 1 long and continue doing this.

I installed elastix, switchvox and even tried older versions on Trixbox to see if if it was an OS issue. But, still no luck. Also there was no information on the net I could find on this, which is why I am putting this here.

After replacing almost all other parts it eventually replaced he hard drive with a SATA drive, and as you guessed problem solved. I think its not actually asterisk or Trixbox but actually Centos that has a problem with IDE drives. And I think it only becomes apparent with asterisk based system as it creates noise on the trunks.

So I have posted this so someone else may find if they running a test system and running into the same problem. I should probably report this somewhere and I will try do that as well.

A bad hard drive can't cause

A bad hard drive can't cause a buzz on trunks. You did not even mention what kind of trunks, I assume POTS lines. You have a bad crimp or some time of resistive line.
