G729 license

Hi guys, I currently have a trunk with 5 channels. I am having issues with voice quality, so I am thinking about the option of purchasing 2 G729 licenses from Digium. I wonder what will happen if I have 2 simultaneus calls taking the 2 G729 licenses and a third or fourth call is made. Do these 2 additional calls will use G711 as a default? or do I have to purchase a license for each of my 5 channels in order to have this working properly?

You need to understand that the only time the licenses will be in use is when the server does transcoding, for voicemail for instance, or if your sound files are ulaw and the call is g729, then the server needs to transcode the sound file and that will use up a licenses. If your trunk is coming in g729 and your endpoint (ie: phone) is g729, then probably there will be no transcoding involved most of the time. If you set this up right and convert your sound files, 2 licenses should be enough for 5 endpoints.
