Hi,
Dont confuse "call groups" and "pickup groups" with each other. Also "call groups" are not the same thing as "ring groups".
There are 2 types of call-pickup:-
1. "directed" call-pickup. As per the feature codes one keys **
But what if you hear an extension ring in the distance but don't know the particular extension number?
2. This is where "general" call-pickup becomes useful.
As per the feature codes one simple keys 5 (or whatever the default setting is) to pickup a call.
Here's how to configure it.
Firstly there can be up to 64 "call" groups enumerated '0' thru '63'. Best to use single digit numbers starting at '1'.
Extensions are placed into one and only one "call group". The "call group" is specified in the extesion configuration screen. This is specified in the trixbox CE Extenstions setup page - LOOK for it.
Extensions are configured to pickup calls from only those extensions that have been placed into "call groups". This is specified in the trixbox CE Extenstions setup page - LOOK for it. For example specifying 1-3,5,7
for "pickupgroup" means that this extension can pickup calls from any extensions that have been placed into "call groups" 1,2,3,5,7.
///////////////////////////////
Example
I have extensions 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16.
Firstly I change the feature code so that "general call pickup" = 5
The Team Leader has extension 12 and the Team members (including the Team Leader) have extensions 11, 13, 14 and 15.
Extensions 10 belongs to the General Manager.
Extension 16 belongs to the Marketing Manager.
For each extension......... 11, 13, 14 and 15, in the "callgroup" text field 1 is entered.
For extension........................................12, in the "callgroup" text field 2 is entered.
For extension........................................10, in the "callgroup" text field 3 is entered.
For extension........................................16, in the "callgroup" text field 4 is entered.
For each extension.......... 11, 13, 14 and 15 in the "pickupgroup" text field nothing is entered......The Team Memebrs cannot pickup any extensions!
For extension.........................................12, in the "pickupgroup" text field 1 is entered.............The Team Leader can only pickup the Team Members's extensions!
For extension.........................................10, in the "pickupgroup" text field 1-4 is entered..........The MM can pickup from any extension.
For extension.........................................16, in the "pickupgroup" text field 2,3 is entered .........The GM can pick up from from the TeamLeader's and MM's extensions.
NOTE 1: That if I made the "general call pickup" in the feature codes = 12 then this would CONFLICT with the extension number 12!!!
NOTE 2: That any extension can be picked up any time by keying **
Many of these sorts of problems are simply due to extension number and feature code conflicts. Always consider your numbering plan first and that it does not conflict with the DEFAULT trixbox feature codes. For example numbers
'99*' and '993' conflict because they commence with '99'. The numbering plan really needs to be thought through carefully beforehand. One simply should never use 12# as "general call pickup" from a group of extension numbers
that includes extension number 12.
There is a rule of thumb to never use these extension numbers as they conflict with trixbox default feature codes:
200
300-399
666
70-79
700-799
9999
See Google "trixbox without tears" also in trixbox wiki.
Hope this solves it.
