We bought into Trixbox Pro because we anticipated that as one of the most popular commercial providers of Asterisk systems, there would be a stream of ongoing development and enhancements that we could take advantage of. Meanwhile, the last piece of news on the Trixbox.com site is from over one year ago, and I haven't seen any major feature enhancements since we purchased the system. It looks like Trixbox has become a slow mover amongst its competition, and I question whether there is any real feature development going on at all. At the same time we were considering 3CX, and looking at what they have done over the same timeframe makes me feel like I made the wrong choice. 3CX is now vastly superior in the number of features they offer and at a lower price to boot.
New Development?
I've been using trixbox Pro for almost 3 years now. I've seen improvements, they may not have been as fast as we'd like and release dates do get dragged out, but improvements none the less.
The next version is expected very soon and offers a lot of extra features, not to mention a later version of asterisk (yay!)
The main reason you have not seen any upgrades for the past year is due to the coding limits of the current asterisk core in trixbox pro. The next upgrade is a BIG jump to a much later asterisk core which means the door to future improvements will be unlocked at last. The next release is so very very close now. This is the absolute truth.
You should sign up for the weekly trixbox Pro newsletter at http://www.voipstore.com/featured-solutions/trixbox as we are going to have news about the upcoming version coming very soon.
So...it has been 3 months since version 5 released on Fonality. Why such a long wait for TB Pro? Seems like there is a big effort in development and marketing on the Fonality brand but nothing at all happening on TB. We are still paying customers here right??? 138577
Any day now to me means, anything from today to 7 days away, otherwise it's any week or any month.
I see the features we have missed from our previous system are there - http://help.fonality.com/*NEW*_in_Version_5 so just waiting on the update being announced.
Any word on fax to email being built in as it seems that all the competing products have this?
a.
I recently heard from the guys over there that v5 should be available for new installs "very soon" but they are still having some issues with upgrading old servers. There are a ton of changes under the hood with extensions and users and the migration path was really ugly. PBXtra was a little easier since you couldn't provision your own phones.
My sense is that the company or at least the Trixbox Pro product is not doing well. Their customer service is a disaster. My sales rep (Bill Blake) doesn't call me back or return my phone calls. Recurring issues due to the hybrid-hosted architecture aren't being fixed.
Clicking the help button to open a ticket has been broken for months. We recently tried to renew our support online because customer service couldn't get it done for months. The online renewal form was missing the submit button so we had to use JavaScript in the URL to submit the form.
This company is a disaster and I'm not going to be surprised if one day I go to cp.trixbox.com and it doesn't work anymore.
ic2000,
Sorry you are having problems with your trixbox PRO system. The best way to get help is to call our 24 hour support number. We have 3 call centers distributed across time zones. I assure you that anybody you talk to is a Fonality employee and not outsourced tech support.
"very soon", "any minute now", "almost ready"........
I think I'm going to give it another couple weeks, and then pull the plug. If I were in charge, I would have my staff working 24x7 to get this done. It's clear that the customers have lost all confidence in the future of this company......
The current pro is based on a very old Asterisk core and suffers call quality and voicemail issues, Also, the Linux base has numerous security holes.
I'll get a complaint from a user on call quality issues, or notification of a DoS attack from our network admins, and try to stall investing time since "the new version will be released any day now". "Any day now" has been nearly a year.
I noticed this morning our admin panel has an available (minor) upgrade. I sincerely hope they are starting the migration process.
I look after roughly 150 trixbox servers, so am pretty heavily invested in the solution. I'd rather Fonality got the upgrade process working flawlessly before releasing it. Remember, there is an upgrade to Asterisk 1.6 to consider as part of the process. I was part of the beta to upgrade and we had to manually configure some files to make the system work. Not ideal.
And to the guy who said Fonality need to fix their "opening a ticket button", I've not had an issue at all. I suggest you try from a different browser, or a different PC.
As Andrew suggested. If you have a support issue, call their support number.
Asterisk 1.2 was never the reason for poor call quality and not any voicemail issues that I know of. And as for DoS attacks, that's the firewall's job, not the trixbox. If you are going to leave ports open to the world, what do you expect? Good natured hackers will leave you be because it's a phone system?
I want the upgrade as much as the next person and lord knows trixbox isn't perfect. But I'm not going to throw around ridiculous statements about how poor the product is, especially if it's the setup that's at fault.
