T1 to analog thru trixbox pro

Hi All:

My current phone lines come via T1 into my old Telrad PBX. The PBX has an analog card in it that routs certain DID's to the fax machines in the office.

Once we switch over to trixbox Pro, I would like to keep this same type of configuration (and add a VoIP circuit for backup and linking). My plan was to buy the trixbox enterprise appliance with the dual T1 card.
1. Is there a card capable of doing what I want it to do (peel analog ports off of the T1 and send them internally)
2. If so, what are my choices?

I am not so concerned with tbpro routing or emailing faxes but rather handling the switching capabilities of converting the T1 channels to analog.

Does this make any sense?

Thanks!

You can direct a DID from

You can direct a DID from the T1 to an analog FXS port (ext) on a Sangoma (or other) analog card but this is not recommended because the timing delays caused by host processing can cause errors in the fax transmission. I've heard of it working well for some but it's not a recommended solution.

There are other ways to do this, such as using a second T1 connected to a channel bank, bypassing the processing involved in the option above (if you search you should find more info on this), but this is an expensive option.

I am resigned..

I guess I sort of have to resign myself to the fact that if I want reliable faxing for a VoIP PBX I will have to resort to ordering separate analog trunks specifically for faxing only and bypass the PBX altogether, which kind of sucks but I am finding most(if not all) VoIP PBX solutions have issues with faxing.

Faxing and IP PBX

beaudettee:

I suggest against using faxing via an IP PBX because timing issues can cause quality problems. However, the IP PBX industry recognizes the demand for this. Sangoma is working on making a product that will provide accurate timing and analog lines connectivity for faxing.

My advice is it make due with separate analog lines for faxing now and wait until a reliable solution is available!
