TB Pro appliance - memory swap 20%+ upon reboot

We have had a realatively uneventful last 285 days of uptime. I have noticed recently over the course of 3 months or so - that out swap memory in the TB diag tab has been steadily rising slowly. I wanted to reboot the TB today and noted that the swap memory was 64% and the users noticed some audio issues. Any idea what this is about.

I also scrolled throught the log and noticed that in September 2009 we had several high CPU temp alerts from the TB

This is a TB Pro appliance with redundant ps and 2gb RAM/raid array.

I would check inside the case to ensure that all of the fans are working properly (if you are still seeing high temp notifications). Also, I would set an alert on your swap so that you are notified when it gets to perhaps 40% or 50%...this way you can proactively reboot the system as the swap starts growing (although it shouldn't really ever grow with 2GB of RAM installed).

If you do notice that it continues to grow, try to figure out which process is doing it, or perhaps open up a Support ticket about the problem.

Thanks,

Chris thanks for the response. yes the case fans are running and the case is clean.
Also we have the room cooled to 72 dF. Can I ask how to check the processes running with the Trixbox?
Should we add more ram to resolve the issues with the memory swap?

The command you want to use

The command you want to use to check the processes is 'ps aux'. This will list all processes and current utilization. Alternatively, you can use the 'top' command which will sort all running processes in realtime by CPU utilization.

Once you determine what process or processes are using the swap (or if it is perhaps just reserved by the OS), that will tell you what to do next. A 27 phone system should never need more than 2GB of RAM...adding more probably wouldn't change anything performance wise, and I only give it about a 50% chance of fixing the swap issue. More likely it is some application using it.

Thanks,

Update

I checked using the "top" command. The only memory I see used that is more than 6-7% is 13.7% java and 13.0% saxirc

those combination and the expected asterisk commands do get into the 30% plus memory swap error. I guess now my question is that we are using Call Center and are those two commands supposed to be there and that high of memory usage? Thanks again for all your help

In the mean time I am doing a restart
