Syncing FAQ and Discussion

This posting will serve as general discussion and FAQ for issues related to syncing. How do you know you have a syncing issue, well here is a list of common syncing symptoms:

1. Banner at the top of the page that indicates you have a syncing problem (and does not go away).
2. Error during the activation process that indicates that you have a syncing problem.
3. Changes to the CP don't seem to have an effect on your system.

It should be noted that the banner at the top of the control panel is NORMAL - If it persists for more than 20 minutes, then something may be awry. Feel free to post here to have us take a look at it.

If you post here, please be sure to include the following information to help us track this as best as possible:

1. Your Server ID
2. A very clear description of your Symptom. IE: "When I make changes to the control panel I receive the banner - and it will not go away - even after HOURS!"

Here are some common reasons that syncing fails:
1. Temporary network conditions that cause us unable to connect to your system
2. Failure in DNS, many types of files that sync require working DNS
3. Outbound Web Proxies between your trixbox Pro and the Internet

Cheers!
Mike

Configuration Error !!!Desperate!!!

Hello Mike. I am posting here at your request. I hope I have not over posted. Here is the info you request:
1. Server ID: 116705
2. When I update the CP config I get the banner: Configuration failure: We have tried to transfer the recent configuration changes you have made in this software down to your premise trixbox Pro server. Normally, this occurs instantly, but for an unknown network reason, the changes have not yet reached your server. We will automatically try to transmit them again in 15 minutes. When we succeed, this message will disappear. However, you may continue to safely make changes while you see this message!
3. I have had this banner message for 2.5 days now.

I have ALL ports open, both inbound and outbound to the TB server. I have tested DNS connectivity bt pinging various sites by name and have been successfull.

TIA Larry

Hello Larry,

I am unable to reproduce this problem on your system. I see no banner and I can sync files to your trixbox Pro normally. It should be noted, temporary network conditions can cause syncing problems and it is NORMAL to get the banner - but it should go away in around 15 minutes.

Are you experiencing any negative symptoms?

Thanks,
Mike

Are you looking at server ID 116705?

I have even cleared my IE cache, and tried accessing it on several systems, but still get the same error. Your post looks like a copy of the post from yesterday after I gave you the wrong server ID. Are you looking at 116705?

TIA Larry

sip.cfg file concern

I have noticed that my SIP.CFG file is much larger than any other client. On average all my client sip.cfg files are 3k, this client is at 129k.

Can't Record Voice Prompts

Hello there. Server Id: 119852

I'm not able to record voice prompts after reinstalling the ISO - it said (on the command line) that the config did not sync correctly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I don't see the new features in Pro 2.0 on my server? Should they be there yet?

Thanks.

Can't Record Voice Prompts (Take 2)

According to my above comment, I still can't record voice prompts - and my config files are out of sync.

Help please! Server Id: 119852

TIA!

By the way, is there any type of free support (email?) for paid versions of Pro or is it ALL by subscription?

Hi Aaron,

I have gone ahead and synced your system fully. The only 'free' support is on the forums. Support (with an SLA, phone number, and email access) is available on a MRC basis based on the number of seats you have on a system.

Thanks,

Re: problem persists

Hello everybody. We have looked throughout the entire forum and we cannot find any resolution to this issue.

We have reinstalled several times, removed the web proxy settings and checked the DNS. As the installation completes, the server starts the synchronization process but ends up with FAILED.

We use a Sangoma A200 board with 8 ports. Initially there were only 4 but subsequently we added an extension board with 4 more. I read on another post that there might be a problem if some of the lines are not active (which is our case with the last 4) but reinstalling the system without the extension board yields the same error.

We can login through the web interface, but when we go in the extensions page all the phones appear with status N/A and in the cards page there is the "famous" banner.

Here are some errors we have found in the logs:

Apr 21 04:19:11 ERROR[9732] chan_zap.c: Unable to open channel 1: No such file or directory
here = 0, tmp->channel = 1, channel = 1

Mon Apr 21 04:30:01 2008
Bad exit status from `/usr/sbin/asterisk -r -x 'show channels'`: 256

Can someone please help. Our server id is 101390. We have also bought the Linked Server Software for this id as we want to create another server for a branch office (the id is 120432). Right now we are recreating all the extensions from 101390 to 120432 in order for us to restore interoffice communication.

Thank you very much for your help in advance.

Best regards,

~mircea

Mircea, Thanks for the post.

Mircea,

Thanks for the post. This failure message is fatal and must require a successfully installation in order to continue. The message indicates that we could not sync down the software required to 'complete' the installation. Please attempt to re-activate these systems to see that resolves this problem.

Thanks,
Mike

Can't Access Web Server

Hi,

I first set up my box at a location (lets call it A), it loaded onto the machine fine. I then had a log onto the web interface and had no problems ... I had a small play around and then left location A.

I took the box back to my house (location H). Assuming I could hopefully just plug and play again. However this did not happen and I got the error message "Your server cannot be reached over the internet right now. We tried for 15 seconds to connect, but there was no answer. Please try again later. ". I got this for a few hours. Then I tried re-installing the program on the machine while at location H. Still same error message 'Your server cannot be reached over the internet right now. We tried for 15 seconds to connect, but there was no answer. Please try again later.".
I then got a new user ID and tried a complete reinstall and WHAMO ... same problem "Your server cannot be reached over the internet right now. We tried for 15 seconds to connect, but there was no answer. Please try again later.".

Since then I have set up a VoIP Account with a provider, got a static IP address at location H. However can still not log on and get "Your server cannot be reached over the internet right now. We tried for 15 seconds to connect, but there was no answer. Please try again later.".

My first user ID was: 119625
The one trying to use now: 120888

I would be keen for them both to work as I will be eventually (when I get this all understood) wanting to set up another box at a another location (K).

Any help sorting out would be appreciated.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having a "Configuration Failure:....." message keeping me from doing anything on the server such as add extensions, change voip settings, etc. All I did was unhooked the server and moved it to a different room...I've confirmed that everything is working as it should network-wise.

Please help!!! I REALLY want to upgrade to EE, but not sure if it's a good idea with all these configuration issues I've been having!!

Brenton, The issue that you

Brenton,

The issue that you are seeing is not related to syncing but most likely your network connection. In order for the CP to connect to your server a VPN connection must be established. The connection is initiated outbound from your system. It is likely that you are either blocking or filtering some sort of outbound traffic, or your network connection setup on the PBX is preventing it from connecting to our systems. Were you able to complete the activation process without any errors?

Aaron,

I went ahead and synced your system for you.

Thanks! Watch this space

Thanks for getting back to me. I don't recall having any problems ... however that is not to say I did not as I am quite new to this.

I have decided that the current box I am using is not going to be suitable, so I am picking up two more this week. I will then install on them, load the existing user names etc ... and see how I go.

Should I be posting somewhere else as it is not a syncing related issue?

Thanks AGAIN!

nzkef, Uploading voice

nzkef,

Uploading voice prompts is not related to syncing. There was a file out of sync on your system but it was NOT related to voice prompts. I have synced this file. You should be good.

Gasmanz,

Your system was IN sync, but you were effected by the false sync condition mentioned earlier in this thread. I have removed this from your system.

Gonzalo,

Same deal as Gasmanz, your system was in sync but thought it wasn't - I resolved this for you.

Thanks,
Mike

Post and Problems

Trixbox team:

My server number is 115872

I began having and syncing problem yesterday afternoon after doing some pretty heavy work on the IVR menus. As I am also having problems with my Hudlite server I assumed that I had caused this problem while trying to make those changes. So, when the sync problem was still present this morning I figured I had messed somthing up pretty good and decided to reinstall. First off, let me say the the new install went very smoothly and, according the installer, the cofig files were downloaded sucessfully. And I believe that to be the case as all of my phones are working correctly and we are able to make calls. This is very good and very impressive. The odd things is that when I log into the server, via cp.trixbox.com, I am still getting a message that tells me my files are out of sync. So, I click on the banner to force the configuration x-fer and get everyting synced and it sends me back to the log in screen.

Any idea what's going on here?

Thanks...

Kerry/Mike,

Same server, 115989.

As soon as I make any changes I get the "configuration failure" banner. When I click on the new manual synching link I get:

"Invalid "do" action: forcesync"

Also, I still cannot load any voice prompts onto this server. I get the following error message:

"[BE]: Unable to copy file to server_id: 115989: rv=$VAR1 = undef; : Couldn't execute RPC call to 115989: SSL read timeout:"

Any help would be appreciated.

Is it okay...

Kerry:

Thanks for your help and sending this off to engineering. While this is being worked out is it safe to work on IVR and other config items or should I hold off on this until after this sync issue is resolved? I would perfer not to throw the two systems out of sync and risk problems when this issue is resloved.

Thanks...

Sangoma related?

I realized after looking again at everything that the 2FXO daughtercard was not installed on the A200 as it was supposed to be. I pulled one from another server and just started over with a fresh server ID. Everything then went as expected. I got the system installed on time this morning. Sorry I did not have time to test more and replicate the problem exactly.

Sync error on two servers

Hi,

I have two servers, one SE and one CCE. Both servers have lately been displaying the same error:

"Configuration failure: We have tried to transfer the recent configuration changes you have made in this software down to your premise trixbox Pro server. Normally, this occurs instantly, but for an unknown network reason, the changes have not yet reached your server. Click here to synchronize these configurations immediately."

I was able to sync up the CCE but the SE doesn't work for some reason. The servers are located in two different places, but the environments in which they are in a as good as identical; same firewall, same policies, so I can't imagine it has anything to do with that. Can you please force a re-sync for me?

My SE server is: 101346

Thanks!

Hi,

Our main server is 101390. We have moved to a new hardware platform and the whole installation/activation process completed successfully without any errors. The card we use is a Sangoma A200 and it appears to be automatically detected during the setup.

However, when we login to the control panel the card appears not to be detected and asterisk is not running. The detect card function from the interface seems to work and correctly identifies the card and starts the asterisk server. However, the sync banner does not disappear despite several attempts to force synchronization.

DNS is working properly and we have no outgoing web proxy enabled. The internet connection is working well and the VPNs tunnels are up and running. Could you please check on our server?

thank you in advance for all your help.

Best regards,

~mircea

Server 107606

I had this happen on a server yesterday and the fonality support tech said there were some files missing from the configuration that were triggering the "Configuration failure" error. He said the files were really not applicable to that configuration and replaced them very quickly. I should have asked which ones they were.

Anyway, I am getting that error on server 107606 now. It seems to be fine otherwise. If someone could fix those files so the error can go away that would be great.

If it helps, these servers were previously activated with the trixbox pro 1.1 CD and then sat powered off on a shelf for a few months before being put into service this week.

Thanks!

Pat

Server: 125673

Trying to manually sync changes since we're getting the same message. Even after clicking on the "Complete Changes" button we are still getting the same error. Thanks in advance for your help.

Missing Macro Files

One of our servers is missing some of the macro files in the /etc/asterisk/fonality folder. Can you please do a file sync for us to make sure the server has all the correct files it needs?

The server number is 119235.

Thanks,
Gasmanz

C0mputerdud3, It looks like

C0mputerdud3,

It looks like you are trying to 'activate' a trixbox CE system. This will not work. trixbox Pro and trixbox CE are different beasts. See the following URL for differences between trixbox Pro and trixbox CE:

Newbie Trying to get First Trixbox Up

Hello,

This is my first post and my first time playing with trixbox. I followed the guide at sureteq to get my box up and running. Now when i login to cp.trixbox.com i get the banner at the top that states:

"Configuration Failed: We have tried to transfer the recent configuration changes you have made in this software down to your premise trixbox Pro server. Normally, this occurs instantly, but for an unknown network reason, the changes have not yet reached your server.

Your changes will not be complete and you will continue to see this message until you press the "Complete Changes" button."

When i try to sync by clicking on the "complete changes" button, it seems to not help. I also tried to wait for 30 min but the banner was still there. My server number is #126309.
Thanks and keep up the great work with this wonderful piece of software.

Hey StinkyEggs, Your system

Hey StinkyEggs,

Your system is actually in-sync. This looks like a problem with the reporting mechanism on some servers. Our engineering team is looking at this now.

Thanks!

Connection Problems

Hello,

Server ID 127254

After successfully activating tbPro I've been receiving the: "Your server cannot be reached over the internet right now. We tried for 15 seconds to connect, but there was no answer. Please try again later." error message after an IP Address change.

I've run through the online documentation:

- I can ping hosts outside of my network

- I can resolve the addresses of the trixbox vpn servers

- I've put the machine in the DMZ and tested that these ports can be accessed.

Still no luck.

Additionally I've logged in as root and checked the DNS.... and I'm getting the following in the logs:
rndc: connection to remote host closed
This may indicate that the remote server is using an older version of
the command protocol, this host is not authorized to connect,
or the key is invalid.
(Unsure if this is even relevant)

Any ideas?

Regards
Tim

Hey Tim, This is not related

Hey Tim,

This is not related to syncing, but to your VPN tunnels. I checked on our backend and see that we have not received any inbound VPN requests from your system. Additionally, I verified that our VPN servers were configured properly for your server.

I have a few suggestions:

1. Log into the system and make sure that vtund is running on the system. You can do this by doing the following command 'ps aux | grep vtund'.

2. Try restarting the vtund processes '/etc/init.d/vpn restart'

3. If all else fails you can try re-activating the system from the CD. The installation should not complete without the VPN coming up cleanly.

Thanks,
Mike

New Install, Configuration Failure

Server ID: 128316

New install but this error has persisted for some days. I have tried 2 modem routers (both in DMZ) and a firmware upgrade on my usual router (Speedtouch 536) I've tried forwarding all the ports through and tried various different DNS options.

I'm really, really dissapointed by this. Trixbox Pro is the ideal solution for what I need to set up. As far as I know nothing else supports remote management without a lot of mucking about (I previously used OpenVPN on a Trixbox CE server)

If someone is able to help I'd really appreciate it.

Found the fault

After reinstalling Trixbox twice and registering another account, I found out what was actually wrong.

1. Hard drive cable was swapped with the CDROM on the system which I hurriedly threw together ;) Therefore the boot drive was not set to the normal HDA. It still installed but I suppose the configs won't automatically write to HDC?

I also had 2 X100P cards in the system (yes I know they are supposed to be terrible) I removed one of them just in case.

Anyway it now works.

Sync Problem

Hi

Server ID: 128866

I seem to be unable to synchronize my premise server to the Fonality server. Whenever I login there is a banner that says:

"Configuration failure: We have tried to transfer the recent configuration changes you have made in this software down to your premise trixbox Pro server. Normally, this occurs instantly, but for an unknown network reason, the changes have not yet reached your server. We will automatically try to transmit them again in 15 minutes. When we succeed, this message will disappear. However, you may continue to safely make changes while you see this message!

You can also press the "Complete Changes" button to synchronize these configurations immediately."

Clicking the "Complete changes" button does not seem to help.

Other steps I have taken that have yielded no result:
- Waited an hour
- Ensured premise server was in DMZ
- Reloaded server with fresh server ID and password.

Other information:
- Server activates with no problem
- Server downloads updates during install
- VPN Tunnels appear to be fine

Please assist

Thanks

Craig
