Aastra 57i and 31i Vlan provisioning issues

I can not figure this out. I have 14 phones, mostly 57i's.

trixbox 2.8.0.4
XML Scripts 2.3
57i Firmware 2.6.0.1008
PfSense 1.2.3-Release

I have a netgear 24 port poe switch with the untagged vlan 1 and the voice vlan 20. I have setup pfsense to hand out the tftp information for the trixbox on the untagged and tagged vlan. Once all the phones were plugged in and provisioned, I was going to remove tftp access from the untagged vlan. Here's the issue, some of the phones freeze when requesting dhcp information. Both the 31i and 57i will stay that way indefinitely.

I have this vlan information in the mac_address.cfg for each phone:

tagging enabled: 1
VLAN id: 20
VLAN id port 1: 1

Some phones immediately picked up their configs, restarted, joined the correct vlan and all was good. While other phones just wouldn't get past that dhcp screen, IF I had vlan information in the mac.cfg. I could either remove that information, the phone would get the config, then I could add the vlans back to the mac.cfg and all was good. Or I could set the vlans in the local config before I connected it to the network and it also worked first try.

I am lost as to what is causing this on only some of the phones. (I even tried the freezing phones from a drop where the phone worked first try) Insights?

I figured it out. It had

I figured it out. It had nothing to do with any networking issues. It was all about the phones being picky about the configs.

I installed the 2.2 xml scripts by mistake because they are posted as the newest release on Aastra's site. After plugging a few phones in, I quickly noticed I needed to update the scripts to 2.3 That is what killed them. I did the full removal of the old scripts, installed the new ones, updated the aastra.cfg and updated the mac.cfg files but then I went back and over-wrote the mac.cfg files to change the buttons around back to where I had them. Aastra added/changed the way some of the scripts worked and needed additional entries for scripts to work correctly. But instead of it just breaking some functionality, the phones decided to freeze, and the freezing is what totally threw me. I didn't think it was a config problem if they kept freezing and eventually worked. I was wrong.

Everything is working great now and yet another lesson learned. Aastra phones would rather freeze than give defective operation :-)

Sorry, I never check the

Sorry, I never check the e-mail tied to this account anymore nor do I frequent the trixbox forums anymore. I'm a pbxiaf and sipx guy now.

You edit this file to your liking. /var/www/html/aastra/asterisk/demo-user.prf

Then run /var/www/html/aastra/asterisk/apply_prf look at the switches and to apply all. (can't remember off the top of my head)

Then, once you log into the phone, it will create the config and keep the person logged into the phone. Any little custom button changes for certain users can be made to the config file for that specific phone, but if you ever apply_prf again it will be gone.

I absolutely LOVE the ease of setting up XML scripts and the amazing amount of time saved during initial setup. Aastra is the only brand I use now because of these scripts.
