Aastra XML scripts local and remote phones

Guys

The XML scripts combined with phones and an Trixbox backend make an awesome package. I have run into a problem that I'm not sure of the correct or best practice solution.

I have a Trixbox 2.8 system in extensions mode using Aastra 55i phones and using the 2.3.0 XML scripts the server is on an internal ip address connected to the big bad internet via a firewall so far so good. All the internal phones work excellent.

The problem I have is we now need to connect 2 phones externally from directors houses. We can set the firewall to handle the traffic correctly to get all the stuff through however the script of course sends everything out as local ip addresses so nothing will work. I can edit the phone manually to get it to work but then it gets lost and log out. The obvious way would be to tweak the mac.cfg file for the specific phone so that it gives out all the correct ip address details but then this gets lost on a log out I think.

I don't believe this is a unique scenario so others must have encountered it and solved?

I seek enlightenment and happy remote voiping directors.

On the other install we did the issue never occurred more by chance than design as the phones were all on a separate network so they all used the public ip internally and externally hence the scripts worked.

Thanks

Regards

Gavin

You need to use VPN's to the directors houses. If your company is large enough for directors then it can afford the appliances.

The security risk of having SIP and tftp is not trivial.
