Gentleman:

We are need of input from true professionals. Our company will be switching from a 3.0mbps bonded T1 voice/data connection from Cbeyond [using IAD] to a 4.5mbps bonded T1 AT&T IP/Flex real soon...and although when we asked the AT&T sales rep and site survey tech if our current SIP Connect Fonality PBXtra phone system would work with what AT&T will provide us, and they said "YES" we figured our Fonality server would continue to be connected to our network via CAT-5 Ethernet to our Netgear L2 switch. However, they now inform us that will need a PRI interface card. I have question AT&T and Fonality techs to no end to figure out which card to purchase and config, without any definitive answer. They only person who has shown some certainty is the Sangoma tech who insisted that we will have to purchase a 4 port Sangoma card, one for each T1 circuit that AT&T is providing. Fonality on the other hand says they can provide a dual span Sangoma card. What is the right answer here? Any help would be appreciated.

Correct answer

Without finding out what you have contracted for, it is difficult to say what equipment, if any, is necessary.
Where are you located? Do you have a pbx vendor who helped set up your current system? Ultimately you will probably need someone to also change your trunk settings as well. You might as well develop a relationship now with one you trust.

The Sangoma tech is just plain wrong. AT&T will supply a router for the three bonded data T1's. That router will have a T1 output for the PRI line(s) that server the IP Flex trunks. How many channels did you order? Divide the number of channels by 23 and that is how many ports your will need on the trixbox t1 card for the ISDN channels.

Hi Scott, You are right, the

Hi Scott,

You are right, the data should come in to a router AT&T provides and then our card would just need to handle the voice T1. Now most likely the support engineer here assumed the customer wanted data as well on the card and therefore you would need more ports to accommodate the data T1's.

If you have any questions about which card you will need just give me a call at 1-905-474-1990 x123. Also A10x is the card you will need here the X is how many ports. So A101 is 1 port and A104 is 4 ports and so on. IF you have any questions just give me a call.
