Need help changing sidetone on 9133i

Hello,

I've got sidetone issues with my 9133i so I spoke with an aastra engineer over the phone today and he gave me these entries to enter into "the config files." For starters, which config files? From what I can gather I need to enter them into the mac.cfg or aastra.cfg found in the tftpboot directory. They say aastra.cfg is global and mac.cfg only applies to that device (makes sense). However, I've put the entries into the mac.cfg and nothing happens. Is there anyway to verify whether or not the phone is downloading and utilizing my updated settings? Can anyone tell me if I'm doing something wrong with the mac.cfg?

Here is the only way to turn down the sidetone also :

In configuration files you need to use these statements.

# each of the following parameters can be adjusted by +/- 10db

#

headset tx gain: 0

headset sidetone gain: 0

handset tx gain: 0

handset sidetone gain: -10

handsfree tx gain: 0

#

# Example 1 - handset tx gain: -5 (decrease the transmitted audio gain by 5 db)

# Example 2 - handset sidetone gain: 5 (increase the local sidetone by 5 db)

#

I'm kind of lost as to why my settings have't effected the sidetone. Please help!

Thanks,

Need help changing sidetone on 9133i

i assume you rebooted the phone so it could download the new config?

If you have multiple Aastra models and that feature is supposed to work with all of them, I would put it in the aastra.cfg file. If its only a 9133i thing, I would put it in the [mac].cfg file.

Just curious, what led you to need to adjust the sidetone? I wonder if that is what we need to do? One of our users talks very loud and complains about "crackling" when he speaks. I have to practically shout into the phone to hear what he's talking about. At normal speaking levels it sounds fine to me.

Need help changing sidetone on 9133i

I tried this on the 480i the user was complaining about and it seemed to help. I turned down the handset tx also and he thinks its better.

Just wondering if there is a resource for all these features that aren't commonly known by the end-users?

qlenfg: the admin guide for

qlenfg: the admin guide for phones which are downloadable on the Aastra website go in to detail about all the additional settings that are configurable via the config files only.

I had to adjust the sidetone/handset gain on my 9133i phones also. For me the sidetone was crazy bad, like nothing I've heard on any other phone I've used. The adjustments helped a great deal though.

just talked to aastra support.

The 6730/6730i and 6757i series phones can go down to -15 for the sidetone gain.

going to -10 helped substantially; about 2% of calls still had echo.

#this block was manually entered by me
headset tx gain: 0
headset sidetone gain: -15
handset tx gain:0
handset sidetone gain: -15
handsfree tx gain: 0

aastra support said this should end the echo problems we've been having. The echo is not network related as latency is 3-4ms between the server and the ip phone.

They also recommended turning off silence suppression.
