Folks,

What have you found to be a quality wired headset for the Polycom 550 using the RJ-9 headset connector? Both monaural and binaural recommendations are welcome. Do I really need an external amp for reasonable sound quality and volume control?

Thanks in advance,

Scott

I know some vendors

I know some vendors manufacture inline (handset) amplifiers for headsets. I'm not sure about using amps on the rj9 interface, but would have to believe they would work. My CS50 has a volume adjust, but I usually adjust my volume direct on the phone without the need of setting it to max volume. Hope this helps.

Plantronics

Plantronics headsets with the "Quick Disconnect" feature and a:

Plantronics 27190-01 Polaris Cable For Telephone Headset Port

works without an external amplifier. They seem to make it hard to determine how/if/when this will work in order to force you to buy the external amp instead of the $15 cable...

Note that the IP320/330 use a mini headphone jack, which is the standard for cordless headsets, and is easy to find anywhere.

polycom ip650 with plantronics cs50

Hi Mitchell,

Im really struggling on how to get my polycom phone, ip650 sip with the HD voice to work with the Plantronics CS50 headset. I have them all connected up with the handset wire going into the base of the unit and the headset wire going to the handset jack on the phone. But havent been able to get a dial tone through the phone. Any pointers would be greatle appreciated, Thanks

First - HD Voice is not

First - HD Voice is not supported in the current version of Asterisk. The latest Asterisk 1.6 supports the required CODEC, since this was just released last week it is not part of any distribution yet.

With regard to your headset suggest you read the users guide to the phone. The headset jack is on the bottom of the phone.

Is it working like it

Is it working like it should? If you connect the headset to the bottom jack the headset key on the phone will operate and you don't have to worry about using the external switch. In fact I am almost sure you do not need an amplifier on the 600 series Polycom.

Hi, we have several IP550's

Hi, we have several IP550's with headsets, the phones are generally used with the headsets, in a sales office,
I have HUD on each desktop and the staff use CRM applications to click and call through the IP 550 extension.. At the moment when we click a phone number to make a call the agents IP550 rings, once answered the call goes through. When we click on a number in the CRM we want the IP550 to dial & place the call straight away without answering their own phone first, I have heard the IP550 is capable of being forced 'off-hook' but am not sure how to make it do it... The phone is capable but there are no references to this feature in the settings through the Phone or web-browser.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated...
