I've upgraded to the latest firmware version for the Polycom phones and now the BLF indicator is not working on the Soundpoint IP601 phones. In fact, I can't find where to set it up any more with the new version. It used to be in the Contact Directory and you would then set up a handset to monitor in a buddy watch list but it appears this capability is no longer there. We used to also have a status button on the xml browser window but that has also disappeared with the new upgrade. Is it possible to get these features enabled under the new firmware or should I downgrade to the older version of the firmware?
Polycom Firmware 3.0.1 BLF and Status
We are working on it. There are a lot of changes in the new firmware and we haven't figured it all out yet. If anyone can help with the proper config file settings it would save us a bunch of time.
Does anyone know what the most current, stable firmware version is that has all the good stuff turned on? I definitely need buddy watch. Also where would I download this firmware version? I look in the package manager but all I see is the 3.0. I've installed this on a couple of phones but without BLF I need to go back to an older version. The majority of my phones are running 1.6.7.0130 which is the version that they shipped with. Is there a reason to upgrade to 2.x or 3.x?
Anyway, I've now got 3 phones running the new version 3 and I need to download something older that has BLF. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Brasslan
I was able to solve the problem of the "MyStat" and "Buddies" button being disabled as well as restoring the capability of "Watch Buddy" by opening the sip.cfg file located at
/tftpboot/sip.cfg
Just do a search for "presence" and you should find
and change it to being enabled like this Just reboot the phone and you've got "Watch Buddy" (BLF) capability, "My Stat" button, and the "Buddies" button, all back like it was before. Enjoy!!

I got one more complaint about this new firmware... When you press the 'Messages' key on the phone, it brings up a menu and you have to select menu item 1 before you get to the 'Messages' menu where you can 'connect' to the voicemail system. Before this button would take you directly to this 'Messages' screen without the extra menu.
Does anyone know how to disable this?
Thanks!
Ok Kerry I have to ask,,, Did leroberts post the answer that you were looking to fix this issue for trixbox? It almost seems too easy. (but I don't think I would have figured it out so quickly, as you can see I wanted to revert back to the old)
You want to enable one-touch voicemail in sip.cfg. Search for the user_preferences element and change the up.oneTouchVoiceMail attribute value from "0" to "1".

I was actually hoping for 2 touch voicemail. This gives us a summary screen of how many new and old messages we have before connecting to the voicemail system. But firmware 3.0.1 changed it to a 3 touch voicemail and put a useless menu in front of the summary screen. :-)
I apologize for being away from the forum the last several weeks.
By default, msg.bypassInstantMessage="0", has it been enabled in your phone1.cfg or equivalent? If set to 1, the phone presents the option to choose Message Center or Instant Message.
Presence feature is disabled by default. I don't agree with this since all new firmware releases requires the associated sip.cfg to be used forcing you to enable presence with each upgrade. I'll suggest it again.

does buddy watch work with trixbox. I can see the buttons. I added all extensions in the contacts directory and enabled buddy watch. Even if I change status to anything it shows on the other extensions as online. Only physically unplugging the phone or being on a call changes the status. Others like away, lunch, donot disturb, etc does not work.
Something that tripped me up trying to do a firmware upgrade to get this feature working. remove your extension from the endpoint manager and re-find the extension.
All you have to do is put in the lines that apply to the extensions participating in buddy watch in the TB's extensions.conf
exten => 1001,hint,SIP/1001
1001 being the extension. You need a line for eac extension.
Enable the feature 'presence' in the sip.cfg
Add the extensions you wish to watch in the
example;
