I was trying to configure the new Polycom to our trixbox server. I got to the TFTP settings and thought I put the correct settings for that. I rebooted the phone and now it is in a constant loop. Error message of “Could not contact boot server” Error loading the 0004f2e365.cfg
Help!
Polycom soundstation IP 4000
It is hard to tell what it is doing.
Go to /var/log and run tail aftpd.log -f
Capture the output while the 4000 is booting and post the results, please use the code tag so we can read it.
We can then figure out what is going on.
One more suggestion, did you run setup-polycom before configuring the device in the endpoint manager?
Scott
I won't be in the office until Monday, so I will post it then. No, I did not run setup-polycom first. We don't use Endpoint, we use the DHCP reservation at the server.
Then the config files would not be generated. Setup-polycom generates the templates based on your servers network environment. The endpoint manager generates the mac specific config files.
Scott
I am going to win stator of the obvious award but...
“Could not contact boot server” Error loading the 0004f2e365.cfg
Means that the server does not have 0004f2e365.cfg or 000000000000.cfg or that the phone can't see the server or log in to the server. So the back up action is to load these files from phone's flash memory. So if the local copy on the phone is gone (maybe because of a file system format) the phone will not boot up.
Use the endpoint manager or your own separate FTP/TFTP server to get the files to the phone.
Chadwick, I am having the same issue. Can you give me some detailed instructions..
I have a SoundStation 6000 phone that was up and running fine. I took the network down to add a switch and everything came back up. Only problem on the whole network is that this phone would get a busy tone everytime you dialed or tried to call into it. I went through some trouble shooting with comparing this phone to the 4000 I have in another conf room and all settings matched. So, I tried to factory reset the phone and ultimately did a file system format.
Now I am in the constant re-boot cycle that was mentioned above (ie. cannot find the config). What steps do I have to take to get this back on the network, booted, and grabbing a DHCP address? I am totally lost..
Please be detailed as again, I am totaly lost..
Thanks.

Here is a link on how to manage files on a Polycom phone, from Polycom. This will help you get familiar with Polycom's file structure;
Polycom LINK
Part A-
Next go in to the console (keyboard and monitor attached) on the Trixbox (or however you prefer accessing command line)
1. Log in to the server on command line
2. Type cd /tftpboot/
3. Type ls (lowercase L S)
4. Look for the file sip.ld or any file ending in .ld (LD) - My server did not have this file either which worries me a bit that the Trixbox install does not come with these files. I have my own FTP that I use so I never noticed it.
5. If you do see the file skip to Part B
6. If you do not see the file the type "wget www.twoseconds.net/sip.ld" w/o the quotes. This is version 3.1.2 SIP that I have put on my server for you
7. Type ls (LS) to list the files in the directory. Verify that the sip.ld is listed
8. After you have typed ls make sure you have the (insert your mac address).cfg
9. If yes then vi that file and make sure the application is pointed to sip.ld. If you don't know how to vi or edit a file in Linux, I can't teach you here and you can use the TrixBox UI under Config File Editor and select /tftpboot.
10. If the (insert your mac address).cfg does not exist it can be created via the TB UI using endpoint manager. (search for how to use endpoint manager if unfamiliar)
11. Go to part b
Part B-
1. In the Admin menu of the phone verify that the phone is pointed to the TFTP server (Trixbox IP)
- Menu -> Settings -> Advanced -> 456(default password) -> Admin Settings -> Network Config -> Server Menu -> And input the proper data here.
2. Verify that DHCP is not giving you the wrong boot server address
- Menu -> Settings -> Advanced -> 456(default password) -> Admin Settings -> Network Config -> DHCP Menu -> BootServer should be set to static for this time only. Change this back once the phone is up, it will help you in future updates, etc.
Now I get the message:
"Application Sip.ld is not compatible with the phone".
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

1. Run "yum update firmware-polycom" to get the latest firmware.
2. run setup-polycom
3. configure you phone in the endpoint-manager
4. press 4,8,6,* all at the same time on your phone to restore factory defaults. (default password is 456)
5. while the phone is rebooting select setup -> server configuration
6. change the config server to tftp and the ip to your trixbox ip
7. save and exit
This will get your phone working with your trixbox.
It sounds like you have either a 500 and not a 501 or you have a bootrom version that is not compatible with 3.1.2 sip.ld you got from my server. What model phone and what bootrom version?
@andrew - Everytime I have tried to run "yum update firmware-polycom" the TB says "Could not find update match for firmware-polycom"
I suspect there is something broken there, but I'm too much of a novice with TB to say what that is. So I do a manual download of sip.ld when I need to upgrade or switch versions for testing.
Ran the "yum" command and got a bunch of downloading.

Still getting the "application sip.ld" error from above post.
Thoughts..
"It sounds like you have either a 500 and not a 501 or you have a bootrom version that is not compatible with 3.1.2 sip.ld you got from my server. What model phone and what bootrom version?"
How do I check the boot rom version? I have a factory Soundstation 6000 (purchased about 8 months ago) and I recently "formatted" it, essentially erasing everything (I believe).
Where can I find the info you are asking for?
Thanks.
JJO
When you first plug in and power up the phone, press the about button. It should show a rev number like 4.1.1, etc. It should be at a minimum 4.1.1
I just re-uploaded that file to my server so you can do a wget from command line, have you done the wget part of this yet?
I tested with a 6000 as well fresh out of the box and it worked, no issues. If you get me the bootrom version I can get you set up with the right data and version. I can even throw it on my server so you can point your phone there and get your 6000 up and working. Then you can sort through the rubble later to find root cause.
Also is this the only 6000 at this site?
What are the other phone models that work OK?
Are the other phone models the same version as the 6000?
What option are you using for the bootserver, 66 or 150 or 160?
Are you sending only an IP "10.10.1.1" or the full string "tftp://10.10.1.1"?
I have set up my http server with the proper files for a 6000. Both bootrom and sip.
Just change your server type to http and enter the following server address
ecotistical.org/6000
The phone will pull the newest bootrom and sip that is compatible for all 6000s. Let me know when the phone is up at the default screen so I can remove it from my server.
Okay, so I got the files from your server. Phone boots up now, just stuck on "Checking Application..." screen. Any thoughts..
Thanks for assisting me by the way.. I would be lost if you were not helping. I really appreciate it.

Nevermind about the last post. Waited a while and things came around. Everything is working now. Thanks again for all your help.
Now time to fix the Trixbox so it has the same files. You can download the same files I have on Polycom's site. www.polycom.com/support/voip
