Getting Started Guidelines
- the wiki is a great place to organize information, with organize having more emphasis. Please try to keep your post organized, if it fits into a category, please post it under that category. If it is of high importance, consider placing it on the front page only after looking at other more relevant pages to post it under, or consider re-locating it after a short time if the issue lessens. After a short time the wiki will start to resemble the forums which is most undesirable. We want something that is easily searchable from a glance, and yet well informed, there are many categories already setup that will help readers to hone in on the issue or feature they are looking for.
On to actual wiki editing - here are a couple of quick cheatsheets, and further below are some quick tips on the various editing methods:
Please read below for more important info specific to the trixbox wiki:
Creating or Editing Pages
When creating or editing pages you must be conscious of the imput format; after you click edit on a page you will notice a link under the main text body that says ">Input format". If you click this link you can check the format, or change it (please do not change the format on already created pages - it will break the code). The default format for new pages is BB Code format, most likely you will want to change the format on new pages to Media Wiki format as it is a bit more slimmed down (requires less code to achieve the same ends).
Creating New Pages from an HTML or BBCode page
To create a new page simply make a wiki link that hasnt been made yet (ignore this if you choose Media Wiki format): http://www.trixbox.org/wiki/mynewlink - then preview the page or click submit and click the link to go to the page- you will see the page doesnt exist and will have the option to create a new Wiki Page.
Creating New Pages from Media Wiki page
If you use Media wiki format creating new pages is as simple as this: my-new-topic, click submit or preview and click your link like in the above steps.
Change the displayed text of the link like so: My New Topic
Using outside links
If you are just trying to enter a link that is already built somewhere else enter the link with single brackets http://www.someotherurl.com, you can change the displayed text of the link like so:
Some guide on some other site
Important - you may notice that the Media Wiki format doesnt always take line returns correctly, in which case you will need to manually type a or 2 at the end line. Many HTML tags apply in Media wiki format, most common ones are condensed - like bold is signified by 3 ' marks.
Posting Code in the Wiki
To use code in Media Wiki posts use the <code> tag. Dont forget to close your tag with a /. The code tag ignores all other wiki formatting.
